Symptom Chart: Active Park Assist System

Condition Possible Causes Action
Module does not communicate with the diagnostic scan tool
  • Fuse
  • Wiring, Terminals or Connectors
  • Module

REFER TO: Communication Network (418-00 Communication Network, Diagnosis and Testing).
Active Park Assist does not engage when the Active Park Assist switch is pressed Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test G
A message about Active Park Assist is displayed on the CenterStack information display and/or the IPC message center display. Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test H
The CenterStack information display shows a message that Active Park Assist is unavailable.
  • AdvanceTrac® was turned off when the system was activated.
  • An ABS or AdvanceTrac® event occurred during system activation.
The active park assist system is unavailable if AdvanceTrac® is turned off or if an ABS or AdvanceTrac® event occurs while the driver activates the system.
  • The battery was recently disconnected.
  • The PSCM and/or ABS module was recently reprogrammed.
The active park assist system is unavailable immediately after the battery is disconnected or if the PSCM and/or ABS module was recently reprogrammed. PERFORM the following: drive the vehicle straight on a level/smooth road at a speed above 20 km/h with minimal steering wheel input for 30 seconds. Discontinue this step at any time to maintain safe driving and repeat the process if necessary. If performed correctly, active park assist will be available when the active park assist switch is pressed.
Active Park Assist does not correctly position the vehicle.
  • Active Park Assist sensor(s) incorrectly secured in the bumper
REMOVE and INSTALL the park assist sensor(s) correctly, if necessary.
REFER TO: Front Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
REFER TO: Rear Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • Dirty or iced Park Assist sensor(s)
CLEAN the bumper covers and active park assist sensors with high-pressure water.
  • The active park assist sensors react to rapid changes in ambient air temperature.
The ambient air temperature around the vehicle can change quickly, for example, when the vehicle enters or exits a garage or car wash. As a result, the air temperature displayed in the vehicle may not be close enough to the actual ambient air temperature. The active park assist system relies on an accurate ambient air temperature measurement to compensate the sensors. No action is required.
  • Tires are not inflated to the correct pressure, tires are not the same size, or tires are not the OE (original equipment) size.
CHECK the tire condition, pressure and size. A significantly worn tire will pull the vehicle away from the curb. A larger tire will bring the vehicle closer to the curb. REPAIR or REPLACE the tire(s) as necessary.
  • The driver allowed the vehicle to roll in the direction opposite to the transmission gear selected, for example, rolling forward when reverse is selected.
INFORM the customer not to allow the vehicle to roll in the opposite direction while operating the active park assist system. REFER TO Owner's Literature.
  • An uneven curb is present along the parking space.
The system may not be able to align the vehicle to damaged, very low or debris-covered curbs. If this condition exists, the system aligns the vehicle to objects bordering the parking space.
  • The vehicle or an object bordering the parking space is not aligned with the parking space.
The system aligns the vehicle to objects bordering the parking space when a curb is not detected.
  • A raised object on one of the parked vehicles, such as a salt spreader or a moving truck platform, may not be detected by the sensors.
Overhanging attachments may not be detected by the system.
  • The length of the parking space or the position of the parked objects has changed after the vehicle passed the parking space.
The system scans the parking space as the vehicle is driven past the available spaces. Therefore, the system cannot determine whether the position of the parked vehicle or objects has changed after the parking space was scanned. No action is required at this time.
  • The driver did not wait for the steering wheel to finish rotating before moving the vehicle.
INFORM the customer to allow the steering wheel to complete its rotation before moving the vehicle after shifting gears.
Active Park Assist incorrectly positions the vehicle (continued)
  • Park Assist sensors are damaged or misaligned.
INSTALL new active Park Assist sensor(s).
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
Active Park Assist does not offer available parking spaces.
  • The vehicle is too close to or too far from the adjacent vehicle and/or objects.
The vehicle must be more than 40 cm (16 in) and less than 152 cm (60 in) from the adjacent vehicle.
  • Available parking space is too small
  • For parallel parking, Active Park Assist only allows available parking spaces that are more than 1.2 times the length of the vehicle. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • For perpendicular parking, Active Park Assist only allows available parking spaces that are wider than the vehicle width + 90 cm (3 ft). The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • There may not be enough room to maneuver the vehicle into the available space.
There must be enough room on the opposite side of the vehicle for the front of the vehicle to swing out as the operator returns to the space.
  • An obstruction may be covering the Active Park Assist sensor(s).
CHECK and CLEAN the Active Park Assist sensor(s). REMOVE any obstructions covering the sensor(s).
  • The Active Park Assist sensor isolator ring is missing, damaged or misaligned.
INSTALL a new active Park Assist sensor.
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13B Park Assist System - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • The Outside Air Temperature (OAT) sensor does not show accurate temperature readings.
DRIVE the vehicle so that airflow over the Outside Air Temperature (OAT) sensor until the temperature reading on the center console information display reflects the actual outside ambient temperature.
The CenterStack information display shows POA UNAVAILABLE when the turn signal is used during parallel park assist.
  • The occupied parking space is too small.
Only Active Park Assist offers the parallel park assist function when the occupied parking space is at least 1.2 times the length of the vehicle. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • An obstruction may be covering the front Active Park Assist sensor(s).
INSPECT and CLEAN the front Active Park Assist sensor(s). REMOVE any obstructions covering the sensor(s).
  • No object or vehicle is detected directly in front of or behind the occupied parking space.
The parallel park assist function is only available when an object or vehicle is detected within 2 m (7 ft) of either the front or rear bumper. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • Object or vehicle detected on the turn signal side
The parallel park assist exit function displays the POA NOT AVAILABLE message when objects or vehicles are detected within 110 cm (4 ft) in North and South America, or within 60 cm (2 ft) in the Asia-Pacific region, on the side of the turn signal activation. Passing vehicles, pedestrians or other objects may be detected. When the turn signal is activated, MAKE SURE the required side clearance is at least 110 cm (4 ft) in North and South America, or 60 cm (2 ft) in the Asia-Pacific region.
Active Park Assist does not offer the parallel park assist function. The vehicle has traveled more than 2 m (7 ft) after the ignition was turned on or after parallel parking. INFORM the customer that the parallel park assist exit function is only available immediately after a successful automatic parallel park or immediately after the ignition is turned on. Driving more than 2 m (7 ft) after either of these events makes the parallel park assist exit function unavailable for driver selection.
