Personal Safety System™
The Personal Safety System provides an enhanced overall frontal crash protection level for front seat occupants and is designed to further reduce the risk of injury associated with airbags. The system is able to analyze various occupant conditions and crash severity before activating the appropriate safety devices to help better protect a range of occupants in various frontal crash situations.
The vehicle Personal Safety System consists of:
- Dual-stage driver and passenger airbags supplemental restraints.
- Front seat belts with pretensioners, energy management retractors and seat belt usage sensors.
- Driver seat position sensor.
- Passenger seat position sensor.
- Front passenger detection system.
- Passenger airbag on and off indicators.
- Front crash severity sensors.
- Restraint control module with impact and safing sensors.
- Safety system warning lamp and chime.
- Airbag wiring, impact sensors, seat belt pretensioners, driver seat belt buckle switch, front passenger seat position sensor, occupant classification sensor system, and indicators.
How does the Personal Safety System work?
The Personal Safety System can adapt the deployment strategy of the safety devices depending on crash severity and occupant conditions. The crash sensors and occupant classification sensors provide information to the restraints control module. During a crash, the restraints control module may deploy the seat belt pretensioners, one or both stages of the dual-stage airbags depending on crash severity and occupant conditions.
