Power Sunroof. Description and Operation
Roof Opening Panel
The roof opening panel consists of the following components:
- Air Deflector
- Gutter Assembly
- Sunroof Opening Panel Glass
- Roof Opening Panel Motor/Module
- Roof Opening Panel Shield
- Roof Opening Panel Switch
- Roof Opening Panel Drain Hoses
- Sunroof Shade
The power sunroof is an electronically controlled glass panel that can be opened, closed or tilted (vent position) using the sunroof switch. When the switch is activated, a ground signal is sent to the sunroof motor/module. The power sunroof uses an integrated motor and module, which are serviced as a single unit. The sunroof has one-touch open and close functions, which are activated by touching the switch on the open, close or vent symbols.
The sunroof motor must be initialized when performing repairs to any part of the sunroof system, or when the sunroof motor, glass, assembly or air deflector is removed or replaced for any reason.
For additional information, refer to: Power Sunroof Initialization (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, General Procedures).
Switch and Controls
The sunroof control switch is built into the overhead console together with the other controls and interior lighting. The sunroof switch is serviced as an assembly with the console trim. The sunroof control switch is a touch-sensitive switch that has no movement or sound to indicate that the switch has been activated. If you touch the switch between the buttons, it will not accept the command. When this occurs, move your finger a few inches away from the switch, allowing the touch system to reset and accept a new touch command.
When the sunroof glass is in the fully closed position, touching the sunroof switch open symbol activates the one-touch open function. In one-touch open mode (except vent), touching any sunroof switch symbol cancels the one-touch operation and stops the glass in that position.
With the sunroof glass in any open position, touching the sunroof switch close symbol activates the one-touch close function. In one-touch close mode (except vent), touching any sunroof switch symbol cancels the one-touch operation and stops the glass in that position. Note: Upon entering one-touch open or close mode, one-touch operation cannot be manually cancelled. Near the end of forward travel, the rear edge of the sunroof glass moves up on the lift arms. This allows a sealed seal when the sunroof glass is closed.
If an obstacle contacts the front edge of the sunroof glass during one-touch closing, the sunroof glass reverses direction and opens to approximately the midpoint position and stops. The operator cannot stop this opening movement once it has started.
If an obstacle contacts the rear edge of the sunroof glass during one-touch vent closing, the sunroof glass reverses direction to the vent open position.
When the sunroof glass is in the closed position, touching the sunroof switch vent symbol activates the one-touch vent open function. When the sunroof glass is in the vent position, touching the sunroof switch close symbol activates the one-touch vent close function.
Global Open/Close
The global open/close function is only activated with the ignition off and the delay accessory relay not active. It can be activated by pressing and holding the RKE unlock button for 2 seconds. The BCM then sends a signal to the global open circuit to open both front door windows and the sunroof panel (if equipped) to the VENT position. Pressing and holding the lock button on the RKE transmitter closes the windows and sunroof panel (if equipped).
