Operating principles
To help prevent personal injury, read and understand the system limitations described in this section. The sensing feature is only an aid to detect objects (usually large and stationary) on a flat surface when the vehicle is moving at parking speed. Certain objects with sound-absorbing surfaces, adjacent vehicle parking systems, traffic control systems, fluorescent lamps, adverse weather conditions, pneumatic brakes and external motors or fans may affect the correct operation of the sensing system. This may cause reduced performance or inappropriate activations.
To help prevent personal injury, always use extreme caution when reversing (R) and when using the sensing system.
The ultrasonic parking aid may not be able to avoid contact with small or moving objects close to the ground. The ultrasonic parking aid emits an audible warning when it detects a large object to help prevent vehicle damage. To help prevent personal injury, use care when using the ultrasonic parking aid.Note: Installing additional accessories (for example, large towing hitches, bicycle carriers or surfboard carriers) may affect system performance or cause false alerts.
Note: Always remove snow, ice and any excessive dirt build-up from the sensors located on the bumper or bumper cover. If the sensors are obstructed, system accuracy may be affected. Do not clean the sensors with sharp objects.Note: If the bumper or vehicle shield is damaged, causing misalignment or deformation, the detection zone may be altered, resulting in inaccurate obstacle measurements or false alerts.
Note: The sensing system cannot be turned off when MyKey is active. See Principles of Operation.Note: If certain accessory devices, such as a trailer or bicycle carrier, are connected, the rear sensing system may detect the accessory device and therefore produce alerts. It is recommended that you turn off the rear sensing system when connecting an accessory device to the vehicle to avoid these alerts.
The sensing system alerts the driver to obstacles within a certain distance of the vehicle. The system activates automatically each time the ignition is switched on.You can turn the system on or off by selecting reverse (R).
If there is a system fault, a warning message appears in the information display. See Information Messages.Test yourself
