Rear Ultrasonic Parking Aid
To help prevent personal injury, read and understand the system limitations described in this section. The sensing feature is only an aid to detect objects (usually large and stationary) on a flat surface when the vehicle is moving at parking speed. Certain objects with sound-absorbing surfaces, adjacent vehicle parking systems, traffic control systems, fluorescent lamps, adverse weather conditions, pneumatic brakes and external motors or fans may affect the correct operation of the sensing system. This may cause reduced performance or inappropriate activations.
The ultrasonic parking aid may not be able to avoid contact with small or moving objects close to the ground. The ultrasonic parking aid emits an audible warning when it detects a large object to help prevent vehicle damage. To help prevent personal injury, use care when using the ultrasonic parking aid.
Rear Sensing SystemWhen Park Assist sounds an audible alert, the audio system may reduce the audio volume to a preset level.
Note: Some additional equipment may reduce performance or cause false activations. Examples include large towing hitches or bicycle carriers and surfboard carriers.Note: To avoid reduced performance or false activations, keep the ultrasonic parking aid sensors clean and free of snow and ice. Do not clean the sensors with sharp objects.
Note: Misalignment of the ultrasonic parking aid sensors due to bumper damage reduces performance and causes false activations. The rear ultrasonic parking aid sensors activate automatically when the gear selector lever is moved to reverse (R) and the vehicle travels at less than 5 km/h. As the vehicle approaches a large object, the repetition rate of the audible alert increases. When the object is less than 30 cm from the center of the rear bumper, the audible alert sounds continuously.
Note: The coverage area decreases at the outer corners.
When the gear selector lever is in reverse (R), the system detects large objects when:- The vehicle is moving in reverse at low speed.
- The vehicle is stationary but an object is approaching the rear of the vehicle at low speed.
- The vehicle is moving in reverse at low speed and an object is approaching the rear of the vehicle at low speed.
Select a gear other than reverse (R) to turn off the system. If there is a system fault, the information display shows a warning message and the system cannot be activated. See Information Messages.
