  1. The vehicle must be on level ground.
  2. Check the oil level before starting the engine, or switch off the engine and wait 10 minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
  3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Reinsert the dipstick, then remove it again to check the oil level.

If the oil level is at the MIN mark, add oil immediately. See Capacities and specifications (page 275).

Note: make sure the oil level is between the MIN and MAX marks.

Note: Do not use additives in the engine oil or other engine protection products. Under certain conditions, they may cause engine damage. Note: oil consumption of new engines reaches its normal level after approximately 5,000 km.

Topping up engine oil

WARNINGS

  • Add oil only when the engine is cold. If the engine is hot, wait 10 minutes for it to cool down.
  • Do not remove the filler cap while the engine is running.
  1. Remove the engine oil filler cap. See Maintenance (page 240).
  2. Add engine oil that meets Ford specifications. See Capacities and specifications (page 275).
  3. Refit the engine oil filler cap. Turn it until resistance is felt.

Note: do not add oil above the MAX mark. Oil levels above the MAX mark may damage the engine.

Note: wipe up any spills immediately with an absorbent cloth.
