Lane Change Alert (LCA)
If equipped, the LCA system is a lane change aid that assists drivers in avoiding lane change crashes that occur with moving vehicles in the side blind zone (or spot) areas or with vehicles rapidly approaching these areas from behind. The LCA warning display will illuminate the corresponding outside mirror and will flash if the turn signal is on.
LCA Detection Zones

- SBZA Detection Zone
- LCA Detection Zone
The LCA sensors cover an area approximately one lane over on each side of the vehicle, or 3.5 m (11 ft). The coverage height is approximately between 0.5 m (1.5 ft) and 2 m (6 ft) above the ground. The Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) warning zone begins approximately at the midpoint of the vehicle and extends rearward 5 m (16 ft). Drivers are also warned of vehicles rapidly approaching from up to 25 m (82 ft) behind the vehicle.
How It Works
The LCA symbol illuminates in the side mirrors when the system detects a moving vehicle in the adjacent lane within the side blind zone or rapidly approaching the zone from behind. A illuminated LCA symbol indicates that it may not be safe to change lanes. Before changing lanes, check the LCA display, check the mirrors, look over your shoulder, and use the turn signals.

When the vehicle is started, both LCA mirror displays will briefly flash to indicate the system is operating. When the vehicle is in a forward gear, the left or right side mirror display will illuminate if a moving vehicle is detected in the adjacent lane within the blind zone or rapidly approaching the zone. If the turn signal is activated in the same direction as the detected vehicle, this display will flash as an additional warning not to change lanes.
LCA can be disabled through Vehicle Personalization. Refer to "Crash Avoidance Systems" in Vehicle Personalization.
If LCA is turned off by the driver, the LCA mirror displays will not illuminate.
When the System Does Not Operate Properly
The LCA system requires some driving to calibrate the system for maximum performance. This calibration may occur more quickly if the vehicle is driven on a straight highway with traffic and roadside objects (such as guardrails and barriers).
The LCA displays may not illuminate when a vehicle is overtaking rapidly, a stopped vehicle is approached, or when towing a trailer. The LCA detection zones extending rearward from the sides of the vehicle do not extend rearward when towing a trailer. Use caution when changing lanes while towing a trailer. LCA may warn of objects attached to the vehicle, such as a trailer, bicycle, or an object protruding from either side of the vehicle. Attached objects may also interfere with vehicle detection. This is normal system operation; the vehicle does not require service.
LCA may not always alert the driver to vehicles in the adjacent lane, especially in wet conditions or when driving through sharp curves. The system may illuminate due to guardrails, signs, trees, shrubs, and other stationary objects. This is normal system operation; the vehicle does not require service.
LCA may not operate when the LCA sensors on the left or right rear bumper corners are covered with dirt, mud, snow, ice, or slush, or during heavy rain. For cleaning instructions, refer to "Vehicle Washing" in "Appearance Care". If the Driver Information Center (DIC) displays a system unavailable message after cleaning both sides of the vehicle at the rear corners, see your dealer.
If the LCA indicators do not illuminate when moving vehicles are in the side blind zone or rapidly approaching the zone and the sensors are clean, the system may require service. Take the vehicle to your dealer.
