Catalytic converter (for vehicles with diesel engine)
Diesel particulate filter (DPF)
Your vehicle is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), which reduces particulate matter in the exhaust gas. The filter is integrated into the catalytic converter.
Particulate matter accumulated in the filter is burned off and removed from the filter.
To do this, the temperature of the catalytic converter is periodically increased while the vehicle is in motion. During particulate matter burn-off, you may notice some changes on the instrument panel and in the exhaust gas. You may see white smoke in the exhaust. The average fuel economy readings shown on the multi-information display may temporarily increase.
The diesel particulate filter does not require regular maintenance. If you drive at low speed for an extended period, particulate matter will accumulate in the filter and require regeneration. The condition of the accumulated particulate matter depends on the diesel fuel used. Always use only the fuel recommended in this manual.
Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration

If the symbol, or the symbol with the warning message "DPF REGENERATION REQUIRED", appears on the multi-information display with the engine running, it indicates that the diesel particulate filter must be regenerated to remove accumulated particulate matter.
To regenerate the diesel particulate filter, drive at a speed of at least 60 km/h until the symbol or the symbol and message go off. This may take up to 15 minutes, depending on driving conditions. This driving condition raises the exhaust gas temperature and burns off particulate matter in the filter.
If you ignore the symbol/message and continue driving, the diesel particulate filter check symbol/message will appear. If this happens, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized HONDA dealer as soon as possible.
Diesel Particulate Filter Inspection

If the symbol appears on the multi-information display, possibly with the message "CHECK SYSTEM", with the engine running, it indicates that the filter is clogged with particulate matter and must be inspected, repaired, or replaced. Have your vehicle taken to an authorized HONDA dealer as soon as possible. Under these conditions, engine power is limited.
Continuing to drive under these conditions may cause serious damage to the diesel particulate filter and the exhaust emission control system.
For the chemical reactions to proceed efficiently, the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter must heat up to high temperatures. Therefore, combustible materials located near or in contact with the converter may ignite. Do not park the vehicle on high dry grass, on ground covered with dry leaves, or on flammable debris.
