Why you should use seat belts
Seat belts are the most effective safety device for adult passengers and adolescents.
(Infants and small children must be placed in appropriate child restraint systems.)
Driving with seat belts unfastened increases the risk of serious injury or death in a road traffic accident, even if the vehicle is equipped with airbags.
In most European countries, the use of seat belts is required by law. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the applicable local laws and traffic regulations in any country where you intend to operate your vehicle.
Driving with seat belts unfastened increases the risk of serious injury or death in a road traffic accident, even if the vehicle is equipped with airbags.
Fasten your seat belt and make sure that all vehicle occupants are also properly secured with seat belts.
When used correctly, seat belts perform the following functions:
• Keep occupants from moving within the vehicle cabin so that all other elements of the vehicle's passive safety system can protect them effectively.
• Help provide protection in virtually any type of road traffic accident, including:
— frontal collisions
— side impacts
— rear impacts
— vehicle rollover.
• Help prevent sudden movement of occupants within the vehicle cabin and injury to other occupants.
• Prevent the driver and passengers from being ejected from the vehicle.
• Prevent the body from moving into a position that is dangerous when the airbag deploys.
Correct body position reduces the risk of injury that may result from airbag deployment in a road traffic accident.
Of course, seat belts cannot fully protect vehicle occupants in every accident. However, in most road traffic accidents, seat belts are very effective and significantly reduce the severity of injuries.
