Fastening and Adjusting Seat Belts

Insert the buckle tongue into the buckle, then pull up on the shoulder belt to check that the tongue is securely latched in the buckle.

Make sure the belt webbing is not twisted, as a twisted belt itself presents an injury hazard.

To allow the center rear seat to be folded or lowered, the seat belt for this seat may be unfastened and retracted onto the retractor.

When the seatback is in the upright position, this seat belt must be in working condition.

Position the lap belt as low as possible on the hips, then pull the shoulder belt to remove slack and fit the belt snugly against the body. Correct lap belt positioning ensures that, in a crash, the crash forces are transferred to the strong pelvic bones.

If necessary, tighten the belt further and make sure the shoulder belt passes over the collarbone and lies against the chest.

This belt position distributes crash forces to the stronger bones of the upper body.

Driving with a seat belt improperly fastened increases the likelihood of serious injury or death in a traffic accident.

Fasten your seat belt and make sure all passengers are properly belted.

If the shoulder belt touches the neck or crosses the forearm instead of the shoulder, adjust the position of the upper anchorage.

The front seat belts are equipped with adjustable anchorages.

To adjust the upper belt anchorage, press the release button and move the anchorage up or down until it locks in the desired position (the latch mechanism allows the anchorage to be set in four positions).

Do not route the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back. This may result in serious injury in a crash.

A defective or improperly fastened seat belt will not protect you in a crash.

Do not allow a passenger to occupy a seat if the corresponding seat belt is defective. Using a defective seat belt involves a serious risk of injury or even death. Have the seat belts checked by an authorized dealer immediately.
