Service Adjustment Procedure

ATF Level Check

  • ATF level check is generally not required during scheduled service. If an ATF leak is found, perform the ATF level check procedure after the repair is completed.
  • When checking the fluid level, make sure that dust, foreign matter, etc. does not enter through the filler hole.
  1. Remove the eye bolt (A).
  2. Add 700 cc of ATF SP-IV through the ATF filler hole (A).
  3. Start the engine. (Do not depress the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time.)
  4. Using GDS, make sure the automatic transmission oil temperature sensor reads 50 ~ 60 °C.
  5. Slowly move the selector lever from the "P" position to the "D" position, then from "D" to "P", and repeat once more at idle.
    • Pause for more than 2 seconds in each gear.
  6. Raise the vehicle, then remove the undercover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  7. Remove the ATF level check plug (A) from the valve body cover.
    • At this time, the vehicle must be on level ground.
  8. If ATF flows out of the drain plug in a thin, steady stream, the ATF level is normal. Then complete the procedure and tighten the ATF level check plug.
Method for checking the fluid level (overfilled or underfilled)
    • Overfilled: The volume of drained fluid exceeds 900 cc within two minutes. {50–60 °C}
    • Underfilled: No ATF flows out of the drain plug.
    • Replace the gasket before reinstalling the ATF level check plug.
    • Turn the ATF level check plug clockwise until it is installed.
    • If there is no damage to the A/T, ATF radiator, ATF radiator hose, transaxle case, and valve body bolt tightening is normal, ATF should drain after performing steps 1 through 7 of the procedure. After performing steps 1 through 7, if the fluid does not drip, inspect the automatic transmission assembly.
  9. Install the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  10. Lower the vehicle using a hoist and tighten the eye bolt.
    • Replace the gasket (A) before reinstalling the eye bolt.

Replacement

ATF of the 6-speed A/T is not replaced. However, if the vehicle is operated under severe conditions or used for commercial purposes, replace the ATF every 60,000 miles for severe use. Severe use is defined as
  • Driving on rough roads (bumpy, gravel, snow, dirt, etc.).
  • Driving on mountain roads, uphill/downhill.
  • Repeated short-distance driving.
  • More than 50% of operation in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 32 °C.
  • Police, taxi, commercial-type operation, or towing a trailer, etc.
  1. Raise the vehicle, then remove the undercover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  2. Remove the drain plug (A) and reinstall it after completely draining the ATF.
    • Replace the gasket before reinstalling the drain plug.
    Drain plug tightening torque: 33.3 ~ 43 N·m
  3. Lower the vehicle using a hoist and remove the eye bolt (A).
  4. Fill approximately 5 liters of ATF up to the filler hole.
  5. Check the ATF level. (Refer to Hydraulic System - "Fluid")
  6. Then complete the ATF level check procedure and install the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  7. Lower the vehicle using a hoist and tighten the eye bolt.
    • Replace the gasket (A) before reinstalling the eye bolt.
