Removal

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts slightly. Raise the vehicle and make sure it is securely supported.
  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub.

    Tightening Torque: 107.9 ~ 128 N·m

    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).
  3. Loosen the drive shaft seal nut (A).
    • Replace the drive shaft lock nut with a new one.
    • After installing the drive shaft lock nut, stake the lock nut using a chisel and hammer as shown in the illustration below.

Staking Depth: 1.5 mm (0.591 in.)

  4. Loosen the brake hose mounting bolt and remove the brake hose bracket.

    Tightening torque: 8.8 ~ 13.7 N·m

  5. Lower the caliper body by loosening the guide rod bolt.

    Tightening Torque: 2.2 ~ 3.2 kgf.m

  6. Remove the pad return spring (A).
    • Pad return springs must be replaced with new ones every time the pads are replaced.
    • Technicians must be careful not to deform the pad return springs.
    • Deformed pad return springs may cause improper braking and increased fuel consumption.
  7. Remove the brake pad.
  8. Separate the pad retainer. Then remove the caliper support by loosening the caliper support bolts.

    Tightening Torque: 78.5 ~ 98 N·m

  9. Remove the tie rod end ball joint.
    1. Remove the cotter pin (C).
    2. Loosen the nut (B).
    3. Using SST (09568-1S100), separate the ball joint (A) from the steering knuckle.

      Tightening Torque: 23.5 ~ 33 N·m

  10. Loosen the lower arm nut (A) and separate the lower arm ball joint using SST (09568-1S100).

    Tightening Torque: 58.8 ~ 71 N·m

Do not reuse the lower arm lock nut (A).
  11. Loosen the bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor (A).

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  12. Loosen the screw and remove the front disc.

    Tightening Torque: 4.9 ~ 5.9 N·m

  13. Loosen the strut mounting bolts (A) and nuts (B), then remove the steering knuckle assembly (A).

    Tightening torque: 156.9 ~ 176 N·m N·m (16.0 ~ 18.0 kgf·m, 115.7 ~ 130.2 ft-lbf)

  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  15. Check the alignment. (Refer to Suspension System - "Alignment")

Disassembly

  1. To reinstall, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.

    Tightening Torque: 49.0 ~ 59 N·m

  2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the dust cover.

    Tightening torque: 3.9 ~ 5.9 N·m

  3. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
