High Beam Assist (HBA)

The High Beam Assist (HBA) system automatically controls the headlamp beam range (switching between high beam and low beam) depending on the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.
Operating Condition
1. Set the headlamp switch to the AUTO position.
2. Turn on the high beams by pushing the lever away from you.
High Beam Assist (HBA) (
) indicator will illuminate.
3. The High Beam Assist (HBA) system will activate when the vehicle speed exceeds 25 mph (40 km/h).
- If the headlamp switch is pushed forward while the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the HBA system will be canceled and the high beams will remain on continuously.
- If the headlamp switch is pulled toward you when the high beams are off, the high beams will turn on without canceling the High Beam Assist (HBA) system. When you release the light switch, the lever will return to the center position and the high beams will turn off.
- If the headlamp switch is pulled toward you while the high beams are on with High Beam Assist (HBA), the low beams will turn on and High Beam Assist (HBA) will be canceled.
- If the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the High Beam Assist (HBA) system will be canceled and the low beams will remain on.
When the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the high beams will switch to low beams when any of the following conditions occur:
- When headlamps of an oncoming vehicle are detected.
- When taillamps of a vehicle ahead are detected.
- When headlamps or taillamps of a motorcycle or bicycle are detected.
- When the ambient light is bright enough and high beams are not required.
- When street lights or other lights are detected.
- When the headlamp switch is not in the AUTO position.
- When the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is turned off.
- When the vehicle speed is below 22 mph (35 km/h).

Warning Light and Message
If the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is not operating properly, the Assist warning message will appear for a few seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light (
) will illuminate. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system inspected.
WARNING
The system may not operate normally if any of the following conditions occur:
1) When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is dim. Examples may include:
- When the headlamps of an oncoming vehicle or the taillamps of a vehicle ahead are covered with dust, snow, or water.
- When the headlamps of an oncoming vehicle are off but the fog lamps are on.
2) When the forward view camera is adversely affected by external conditions. Examples may include:
- If the vehicle headlamps are damaged or not properly repaired.
- When the vehicle headlamps are not properly aimed.
- When the vehicle is driven on a narrow, winding, or uneven road.
- When the vehicle is driven on an uphill or downhill road.
- When only a portion of the vehicle ahead is visible at an intersection or on a curve.
- When there is a traffic light, reflective sign, flashing sign, or mirror.
- When road conditions are poor, such as wet or snow-covered roads.
- When a vehicle suddenly appears from around a curve.
- When the vehicle is tilted due to a flat tire or is being towed.
- When the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) warning lamp illuminates.
- When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to exhaust gas, smoke, fog, snow, etc.
- When the windshield is covered with foreign matter such as ice, dust, or fog, or is damaged.
3) When forward visibility is poor. Examples may include:
- When the headlamps of an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle ahead are not detected due to poor visibility outside the vehicle (smog, smoke, dust, fog, heavy rain, snow, etc.).
- When the lamps of an oncoming or preceding vehicle are covered with dust, snow, or water.
- When visibility through the windshield is poor.
WARNING
- Do not attempt to disassemble the forward view camera without the assistance of an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. If the camera is removed for any reason, recalibration of the system may be required. Have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- If the windshield of your vehicle is replaced, the forward view camera will likely need to be recalibrated. If this occurs, have your vehicle inspected and the system calibrated by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Be careful not to allow water to enter the High Beam Assist (HBA) control unit, and do not remove or damage related parts of the High Beam Assist (HBA) system.
- Do not place light-reflective objects such as mirrors, white paper, etc. on the dashboard. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
- The High Beam Assist (HBA) system may occasionally malfunction. The system is provided for your convenience only. The driver is responsible for safe driving practices and should always check road conditions for safety.
- If the system does not operate normally, manually change the headlight position between high beam and low beam.
