Removal

  1. Remove the engine compartment cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "Engine Compartment Under Cover")
  2. Drain the engine oil. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Engine Oil")
  3. Remove the oil pan (A).
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Insert the SST blade (09215-3C000) between the cylinder block and the oil pan. Separate the applied sealant and remove the oil pan.
    • Loosen one oil pan bolt near each corner of the oil pan, leaving the bolts held in place by about 2 threads. Then remove all remaining oil pan bolts.
    • Insert the SST between the oil pan and the cylinder block, tapping it with a plastic hammer in the direction of thearrow.
    • After tapping the SST with a plastic hammer in the direction of thearrow around more than 2/3 of the oil pan edge, remove the oil pan from the cylinder block.
    • Do not pry the SST sharply without tapping. This will damage the SST.
    • Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and the oil pan.
  4. Remove the oil filter (A) with gasket (B).

Installation

  1. Install the oil filter (A) with a new gasket (B). Tightening torque Bolt: 19.6 ~ 26 N·m Nut: 11.8 ~ 13.7 N·m
  2. Install the oil pan.
    1. Using a gasket scraper, remove all old sealant from the gasket surfaces.
    2. The sealing surfaces on the oil pan and cylinder block must be free of harmful foreign material, oil, dust and moisture. Spray cleaner onto the surface and wipe with a clean cloth.
    3. After applying liquid sealant to the oil pan, assemble it within 5 minutes of applying the sealant. A continuous bead of sealant must be applied to prevent any oil leakage path. Bead width, entire section: 4.0 ~ 5.0 mm (0.16 ~ 0.20 in). Section A: 1.5 ~ 2.5 mm (0.06 ~ 0.10 in). Sealant: Threebond 1217H (Hyundai Gray RTV)
      • When applying sealant, make sure the sealant does not protrude into the oil pan.
      • If sealant is applied to the lower surface of the oil pan upper, it must be in the same position as the oil pan.
    4. Install the oil pan (A). Tighten the bolts evenly in several passes.

      Tightening torque: 11.8 ~ 13.7 N·m

      • After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before adding engine oil.
      • Always use a new drain plug gasket.
  3. Fill the engine with engine oil.
