Limitations of the Function
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate normally, or the function may activate unexpectedly under the following conditions:
- The detection sensor or surrounding area is contaminated or damaged.
- The temperature around the front view camera is high or low.
- The camera lens is contaminated by tinted, film-coated, or coated windshield, damaged glass, or foreign matter (sticker, insect, etc.) stuck to the glass.
- Moisture is not removed or frozen from the windshield.
- Washer fluid is continuously sprayed or the wipers are operating.
- Driving in heavy rain or snow, or in dense fog.
- The front view camera field of view is blocked by sun glare.
- Street lights or headlights of oncoming vehicles are reflected on a wet road surface, such as a puddle on the road.
- An object is placed on the instrument panel.
- Your vehicle is being towed.
- The surroundings are very bright.
- The surroundings are very dark, such as in a tunnel, etc.
- The brightness changes suddenly, for example when entering or exiting a tunnel.
- The outside brightness is low and the headlights are off or not bright.
- When driving through steam, smoke, or shadows.
- Only part of a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist is detected.
- The vehicle ahead is a bus, heavy truck, truck with an unusually shaped load, trailer, etc.
- The vehicle ahead has no taillights, or the taillights are located unusually, etc.
- The outside brightness is low and the taillights of the vehicle ahead are off or not bright.
- The rear of the vehicle ahead is small, or the vehicle does not appear normal, for example when the vehicle is tilted, overturned, or its side is visible, etc.
- The ground clearance of the vehicle ahead is low or high.
- A vehicle or pedestrian suddenly cuts in from the front.
- The vehicle ahead is detected late.
- The vehicle ahead is suddenly blocked by an obstacle.
- The vehicle ahead suddenly changes lanes or decelerates sharply.
- The vehicle ahead is curved due to its shape.
- The speed of the vehicle ahead is high or low.
- The vehicle ahead steers in the direction opposite to your vehicle to avoid a collision.
- When a vehicle is ahead, your vehicle changes lanes at low speed.
- The vehicle ahead is covered with snow.
- You are leaving or entering an alley.
- Unstable driving.
- You are at a roundabout and the vehicle ahead is not detected.
- You are continuously driving in a circle.
- The vehicle ahead has an unusual shape.
- The vehicle ahead is driving uphill or downhill.
- A pedestrian is not fully detected, for example if the pedestrian is bending over or not walking fully upright.
- The pedestrian is wearing clothing or equipment that makes it difficult to identify as a pedestrian.

The illustration above shows an example of a vehicle and a pedestrian that the front view camera may identify.
- A pedestrian ahead is moving very fast.
- A pedestrian ahead is short or is in a low posture.
- A pedestrian ahead is using a mobility aid.
- A pedestrian ahead is moving across the direction of travel
- There is a group of pedestrians or a large crowd ahead
- A pedestrian wearing clothing that easily blends into the background, making them difficult to detect
- A pedestrian is difficult to distinguish from similarly shaped structures in the surroundings
- You are driving past a pedestrian, road sign, structure, etc. near an intersection
- Driving in a parking lot
- Driving through a barrier gate, construction site, unpaved road, partially paved road, rough road, speed bumps, etc.
- Driving on a sloped road, curved road, etc.
- Driving past a roadside with trees or street lights
- Excessive vehicle vibration during driving due to adverse road conditions
- The height of your vehicle is lowered or raised due to heavy loads, incorrect tire pressure, etc.
- Driving on a narrow road where trees, grass or overgrowth are present
- Interference from electromagnetic waves, such as driving in an area with strong radio waves or electrical interference
WARNING
• Driving on a curve
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not detect other vehicles or pedestrians ahead of you on curved roads. This may result in no warning or braking assistance when necessary.
When driving through a curve, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, steer the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect a vehicle or pedestrian in an adjacent lane or outside the lane when driving on a curved road.
If this occurs, the system may issue an unnecessary warning and apply the brakes. Always check the traffic conditions around the vehicle.
• Driving on a slope
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not detect other vehicles or pedestrians ahead of you during uphill or downhill driving, which may affect sensor performance.
This may result in an unnecessary warning or braking assistance, or no warning or braking assistance when necessary.
In addition, the vehicle speed may decrease rapidly when a vehicle or pedestrian ahead is suddenly detected.
Always watch the road when driving uphill or downhill and, if necessary, steer the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to reduce driving speed and maintain a safe distance.
• Lane Change
[A]: Your vehicle, [B]: Vehicle changing lanes
When a vehicle moves into your lane from an adjacent lane, it may not be detected by the sensor until it is within the sensor's detection range. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not immediately recognize a vehicle that changes lanes abruptly. In this case, you must maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, steer the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to reduce driving speed and maintain a safe distance.
[A]: Your vehicle, [B]: Vehicle changing lanes, [C]: Vehicle in the same lane
When a vehicle ahead of you changes lanes, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not immediately detect the vehicle now in front of you.
In this case, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, steer the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to reduce driving speed and maintain a safe distance.
• Vehicle Detection
If the vehicle ahead is carrying cargo that extends rearward from the cab, or if the vehicle ahead has a higher ground clearance than your vehicle, extra attention is necessary. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not be able to detect cargo extending from the vehicle. In these cases, maintain a safe braking distance from the rearmost object and, if necessary, steer the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to reduce driving speed and maintain a safe distance.
WARNING
- When towing a trailer or another vehicle, we recommend that Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist be turned off for safety reasons.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may operate when objects with similar shapes or characteristics to vehicles and pedestrians are detected.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist does not operate for bicycles, motorcycles, or wheeled objects such as luggage bags, shopping carts, or strollers.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate normally if strong electromagnetic waves cause interference.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate for 15 seconds after the vehicle is started or the front camera is initialized.
