Front Drive Shaft - Inspection, Installation

INSPECTION 1. Check the CV joint boot for damage or deterioration.

2. Check the ball joints for excessive wear and smooth movement.

3. Check the splined part of the drive shaft (and hub) for signs of excessive wear or damage.

4. Check the dynamic damper for damage or cracks.

INSTALLATION 1. Apply transaxle fluid to the drive shaft splines and the differential housing contact surface (in the transaxle).

2. Before installing the drive shaft, position the retainer ring so that the ring gap faces downward.

3. After installing the drive shaft, check that it is securely locked and cannot be removed by hand.

4. Install the washer with the convex side facing outward, then install the drive shaft nut and cotter pin.

5. Always replace the self-locking drive shaft nut and cotter pin with new ones after each disconnection of the shaft from the hub.
