Windshield Defrosting and Defogging

~2min read

WARNING

Windshield Defroster

Do not use or Do not operate in cooling mode in extremely humid weather. The difference between the outside air temperature and the windshield surface temperature may cause the outside surface of the windshield to fog up, resulting in loss of visibility, which may lead to an accident resulting in serious injury or death. In this case, set the mode selection knob or button to the position and the fan speed control knob or button to a lower speed.

  • For maximum defrosting, set the temperature control to the full right/hot position and the fan speed control to maximum speed.
  • If warm air to the floor is required during defrosting or defogging, set to the floor defrost position.
  • Before driving, remove all snow and ice from the windshield, rear window, outside rearview mirrors, and all side windows.
  • Clear all snow and ice from the hood and the air intake grille under the hood to improve heater and defroster efficiency and reduce the possibility of fogging on the inside of the windshield.

✽ NOTICE

If engine temperature is still low after starting, it may take a short period of engine warm-up before the ventilation airflow becomes warm or hot.

To prevent fogging of the inside of the windshield

1. Select the desired fan speed.

2. Select the desired temperature.

3. Press the defrost button ( ).

4. The outside (fresh) air position will be selected automatically.

If the outside (fresh) air position is not selected automatically, adjust the corresponding button manually.

IfAfter the position is selected, lower the fan speed setting to a higher fan speed.

To defrost the windshield from the outside

1. Set the fan speed to maximum (far right) position.

2. Set the temperature to the extreme hot (HI) position.

3. Press the defrost button ( ).

4. The outside (fresh) air position will be selected automatically.

IfAfter the position is selected, lower the fan speed setting to a higher fan speed.

Automatic Defogging System

The Automatic Defogging system reduces the possibility of fogging on the inside of the windshield by automatically detecting moisture on the inside surface of the windshield.

The automatic defogging system operates when the heater or air conditioner is on.

This indicator illuminates when the auto defog system detects humidity inside the windshield and is operating.

If there is more moisture in the vehicle, the automatic steps operate as follows:

Step 1: Operate the air conditioner
Step 2: Set to outside air
Step 3: Direct airflow to the windshield
Step 4: Increase the airflow toward the windshield
