Explanation of Scheduled Maintenance and Repair Operations
• Engine Oil and Filter
Replace the engine oil and filter at the intervals specified in the Service Booklet. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, the oil and filter must be replaced more frequently.
• Valve Clearance (DIESEL)
Incorrect valve clearance may cause not only engine misfire but also excessive noise and loss of engine power.
Inspect the valve clearance and adjust as required while the engine is warm.
Clearance between valve and rocker arm:
DIESEL:
Warm 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.) Cold 0.15 mm (0.0059 in.)
• Fuel Lines and Fuel System Fittings
Check the fuel lines and fuel system fittings for leaks or damage. Replace damaged or leaking parts immediately!
• Fuel Filter
A clogged filter may cause reduced vehicle speed, damage the emission control system, and cause hard engine starting. If excessive contaminants accumulate in the fuel tank, the filter must be replaced more frequently.
After installing a new filter, run the engine for several minutes. Then check the connections for leaks.
• Vacuum Hoses and Crankcase Ventilation Hoses
Inspect the hose surfaces for heat and/or mechanical damage.
Hardened and brittle rubber, cracks, tears, cuts, abrasion, and severe swelling indicate rubber deterioration. Pay particular attention to hose surfaces located near heat sources such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect hose routing: hoses must not contact any heat source, sharp edges, or moving parts, which can cause damage or mechanical wear.
Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings; they must be secure and must not leak. If there are signs of damage or wear, replace the hoses immediately.
• Fuel Feed Hose, Evaporator Hose, and Fuel Filler Cap
Inspect the fuel feed hose, evaporator hose, and fuel filler cap at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule.
Make sure the new fuel feed hose, evaporator hose, and fuel filler cap are installed correctly.
If you have any questions, contact a Hyundai dealer.
• Air Cleaner Filter
Hyundai genuine parts are recommended for air cleaner filter replacement.
• Spark Plugs
When replacing, always use new spark plugs of the correct heat range.
• Drive Belts
Inspect all drive belts (water pump and alternator) for cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil contamination; replace as necessary.
Periodically check drive belts for proper tension and adjust if necessary.
• Engine Coolant
Replace the engine coolant at the intervals specified in the vehicle maintenance requirements section.
• Timing Belt
Inspect all components related to the timing belt for damage or deformation.
Replace all damaged parts.
• Manual Transaxle Oil
Check the final drive oil in the manual transaxle according to the maintenance schedule.
If the oil level is low, check for leaks before adding oil. Do not overfill.
• Automatic Transaxle Fluid
The fluid level must be within the "HOT" range of the dipstick after the engine and automatic transaxle have reached normal operating temperature.
Check the automatic transaxle fluid level with the engine running, the shift lever in "N" (Neutral), and the parking brake applied.
When adding or replacing fluid, use
GENUINE HYUNDAI ATF, DIAMOND ATF DEXTRON II or DIAMOND ATF SP III AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID.
• Brake hoses and lines
Visually check for proper installation, rubbing wear, cracks, damage or leakage. Replace damaged parts immediately.
• Brake fluid
Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid that meets SAE J1703.
• Rear brake drums and drum brake linings
Check for scoring, burning, fluid leakage, damaged parts or excessive wear.
• Brake pads, calipers and rotors
Check the pads for excessive wear, the discs for runout and wear, and the calipers for fluid leakage.
• Parking brake
Inspect the parking brake system:
parking brake lever, cables, etc.
Refer to the factory service manual for detailed service procedures.
• Exhaust pipe, muffler and suspension bolt connections
Check the exhaust pipe, muffler and suspension bolt connections for tightness or damage.
• Steering gear box, steering linkage and boots (external parking safety brake)
Stop the vehicle and turn off the engine, then check for excessive steering wheel play.
Check the steering linkage for bending or damage. Check the dust boots and ball joints for damage or cracks. Replace any damaged parts.
• Wheel bearing grease
Check the wheel bearings and grease according to the maintenance schedule.
Refer to the factory service manual for the inspection procedure.
