Children Always in the Rear Seat

~3min read
WARNING Always properly restrain children in the rear seats of the vehicle. Children of all ages are better protected when secured in the rear seat. A child riding in the front passenger seat can be struck with force by an OPENING airbag, SUFFERING SERIOUS or FATAL INJURIES.

Children under 13 years of age traveling in the vehicle must sit in the rear seat and always be secured to reduce the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop, or sudden maneuver.

According to accident statistics, children are better protected when properly secured in the rear seats rather than the front seats. Even with airbags, children can suffer serious injuries. Older children who are not secured with a dedicated safety device must use the seat belts.

In most countries, child restraint laws are in effect, requiring children to travel in approved child seats. The laws in force based on age or weight/height for which child restraints may be used instead of child seats differ from country to country; therefore, you must know the specific regulations in force both in your own country and in the countries you will travel to.

Child restraint systems must be properly positioned and installed in the rear seat. Use a commercially available child restraint that meets the safety standards of your country.

Child restraint systems are generally designed to be secured to the vehicle seats using the lap portion of the seat belt, or with a top-tether ISOFIX anchor and/or a lower ISOFIX anchor on the vehicle's rear seats.

Child Restraint System (CRS) Always in the Rear

Infants and small children must be restrained in a suitable CRS facing forward or rearward, which has first been properly secured to the vehicle's rear seat. Read and follow the installation and use instructions provided by the child safety device manufacturer.

WARNING A child restraint that is not properly secured can increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in an accident. Always take the following precautions when using child restraint systems: - NEVER place a child or infant restraint system in the passenger seat. - Always properly secure the child restraint to the rear seat of the vehicle. - Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's instructions for installation and use. - Always properly restrain the child in the child restraint. - Never use a restraint or child seat that becomes caught in a seatback, as it may not provide adequate protection in an accident. - After an accident, it is recommended that a HYUNDAI dealer inspect the child restraint system, seat belts, lower ISOFIX anchors, and top-tether anchors.
