Installing a Child Restraint System (CRS)

~2min read
WARNING Before installing the child restraint system, always: - Read and follow the installation and use instructions provided by the child restraint manufacturer. - Read and follow the instructions in this manual regarding child restraints. - Failure to follow all warnings and instructions may increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in a collision.

After selecting a suitable restraint and checking that it fits correctly on the vehicle's rear seats, you are ready to install the seat according to the manufacturer's instructions. There are three general steps for correct child seat installation:

- Secure the child seat correctly to the vehicle. All child seats must be secured to the vehicle with the lap portion of the seat belt or with an ISOFIX top tether anchorage and/or an ISOFIX lower anchorage.

- Check that the child seat is firmly secured. After installing the child seat in the vehicle, push and pull the seat forward and sideways to check that it is firmly secured to the seat. A child seat secured with the seat belt must be installed as tightly as possible.

However, some lateral movement is expected.

- Secure the child in the child seat. Make sure the child is correctly restrained in the seat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

WARNING A child seat inside a closed vehicle can become very hot. To prevent burns, check the seat surface and buckles before placing the child in the seat.

If the vehicle's head restraint prevents the correct installation of the child restraint (as described in the CRS manual), the head restraint of the corresponding seat must be readjusted or removed completely.

To accommodate child restraints correctly in all adjustment positions, the front passenger seat can be moved rearward with the seatback upright without going past the center pillar.
