To close the tailgate, lower it and press it firmly. Make sure it is securely latched.

WARNING - Exhaust fumes. Driving with the tailgate open draws dangerous exhaust fumes into the vehicle, which can cause serious injury or death to the occupants. If you must drive with the tailgate open, keep the ventilation fans and windows open to draw more air into the vehicle. WARNING - Rear cargo area. Occupants must never ride in the rear cargo area, where no safety devices are available. To avoid injury in an accident or sudden stop, occupants must always be properly belted.
