What to do in an emergency

Replacing a Tire with TPMS

~4min read

If the tire is flat, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate. It is recommended that the flat tire be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

NOTICE It is recommended to use tire repair agents approved by HYUNDAI Motor Company. The sealant on the tire and wheel pressure sensor must be removed when replacing the tire with a new one.

Each wheel is equipped with a pressure sensor mounted inside the tire behind the valve stem. Specific wheels with TPMS must be used. It is recommended that tires be repaired by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Even if the low-pressure tire is replaced with the spare tire, the low tire pressure warning light will flash or remain on until the tire is repaired or reinstalled on the vehicle.

After replacing the flat tire with the spare tire, the low tire pressure warning light may flash or illuminate after a few minutes because the TPMS sensor mounted on the spare wheel has not been activated.

Once the low-pressure tire has been inflated to the correct value and installed on the vehicle, or once the TPMS sensor mounted on the replacement wheel has been activated by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer, the TPMS malfunction indicator and the low tire pressure warning light will turn off within a few minutes of driving.

If the lights do not turn off after a few minutes of driving, it is recommended that the system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

NOTICE If an original tire is replaced with the spare tire, the TPMS sensor on the spare wheel must be activated, and it is recommended that the TPMS sensor on the original wheel be deactivated by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. If the TPMS sensor on the original wheel stored in the spare tire compartment is activated further, the tire pressure monitoring system may not operate properly. It is recommended that the system be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

You may not be able to identify a flat tire simply by looking at it. Always use a good-quality gauge to measure tire inflation pressure.

Note that a warm tire (after driving) will have a higher pressure than a cold tire.

A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) over a period of 3 hours.

Allow the tire to cool before measuring its inflation pressure. Always make sure the tire is cold before inflating it to the correct value.

NOTICE It is recommended to use tire sealant approved by HYUNDAI if the vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Liquid tire sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors. WARNING - TPMS - The TPMS cannot warn the driver of serious and sudden tire damage caused by external factors, such as nails or road debris. - If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, apply the brakes gradually with light pressure, then slowly bring the vehicle to a safe location. WARNING - TPMS Protection Tampering with, modifying or disabling components of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may affect the system's ability to warn the driver of low tire pressure conditions and/or TPMS malfunctions. Tampering with, modifying or disabling components of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may void the warranty for this part of the vehicle. WARNING - For EUROPE - Do not modify the vehicle, as this may interfere with the TPMS function. - Aftermarket wheels do not have a TPMS sensor. - For your safety, it is recommended to use genuine parts from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. - If aftermarket wheels are used, use a TPMS sensor approved by a HYUNDAI dealer. If the vehicle is not equipped with a TPMS sensor or the TPMS does not operate properly, the periodic vehicle inspection required in your country may not be passed. All vehicles sold in the EUROPEAN market during the following periods must be equipped with TPMS. - New vehicle models: Nov. 1, 2012 ~ - Current vehicle models: Nov. 1, 2014 ~ (Based on vehicle registrations)
