Emergency Towing
If towing is required, it is recommended to have it performed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or a professional towing service.
If towing service is not available in an emergency, the vehicle may be temporarily towed using a cable or chain secured to the emergency towing hook located under the front (or rear) of the vehicle.
Exercise extreme caution when towing the vehicle. A driver must be inside the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes.
This type of towing may only be carried out on solid surfaces, for a short distance and at low speed. In addition, the wheel axles, powertrain, steering and brakes must be in good condition.
- Do not use the towing hooks to pull a vehicle out of mud, sand or other conditions from which the vehicle cannot be pulled out using its own capabilities.
- Avoid towing a vehicle that is heavier than the towing vehicle.
- The drivers of both vehicles must communicate frequently.
NOTICE - Attach a towing strap to the hook. - Using any part of the vehicle other than the hook for towing may damage the vehicle body. - Use only a cable or chain specifically intended for towing vehicles. Connect the cable or chain securely to the designated hook.- Before emergency towing, check that the hook is not broken or damaged.
- Connect the cable or chain securely to the hook.
- Do not jerk the hook. Apply a steady, even force.
- To avoid damaging the hook, do not pull from the side or at a vertical angle. Always pull straight ahead.
WARNING Use extreme caution when towing the vehicle. - Avoid sudden starts or erratic maneuvers that place excessive stress on the towing hook and the towing cable or chain. The towing hook and the towing cable or chain may break and cause serious injury or damage. - If the disabled vehicle cannot be moved, do not continue towing by force. Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or a professional towing service for assistance. - Tow the vehicle as straight as possible. - Stay away from the vehicle while it is being towed.
- Use a tow strap less than 5 m long. Attach a white or red cloth (approximately 30 cm wide) to the middle of the strap to improve its visibility.
- Drive carefully so that the strap does not slacken during towing.
Precautions for emergency towing
- Turn the ignition switch to ACC to unlock the steering.
- Place the gear shift lever in neutral (N).
- Release the parking brake.
- Press the brake pedal with greater force than normal, as braking performance is reduced.
- More force must be applied to the steering wheel, as power steering is disabled.
- If you are driving down a long downhill slope, the brakes may overheat and their performance may decrease. Stop often to allow the brakes to cool.
NOTICE - Automatic transmission - To tow with all four wheels on the ground, the vehicle may only be towed from the front. Make sure the transmission is in neutral. Do not tow at speeds aboveTest yourself
