Driving Your Vehicle
Good Driving Practices
In this manual: Driving Your Vehicle
~2min read
- Never drive with the clutch disengaged or coast downhill in neutral. This is extremely dangerous.
- Do not keep the brake pedal depressed at all times. This may cause the brakes and related parts to overheat and malfunction.
- When driving down a long slope, reduce speed and shift to a lower gear. Engine braking will help slow the vehicle.
- Apply the brakes before shifting to a lower gear. This prevents the engine speed from over-revving, which could damage it.
- Reduce speed in crosswinds. This allows better control of your vehicle.
- Stop the vehicle before moving the shift selector to R (Reverse) or D (Drive) to avoid damaging the transmission.
- Be extremely careful when driving on slippery surfaces. Use particular caution when braking, accelerating, or shifting gears. On slippery surfaces, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the wheels to lose traction with the road surface, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
WARNING
Do not use sudden engine braking (downshifting) on slippery roads. The vehicle may skid and cause an accident.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a crash, an unbelted passenger is far more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted passenger.
- Avoid high speeds when cornering or changing lanes.
- Do not make sudden steering maneuvers (abrupt lane changes or sharp, quick turns).
- The risk of rollover increases significantly if you lose control of your vehicle on the highway.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the road, and if the driver steers too sharply to regain the road surface.
- If your vehicle leaves the road, do not steer sharply. Instead, brake gently before returning to the traffic lane.
- HYUNDAI recommends that you observe the posted speed limits.

Use the Downshift mechanism for maximum acceleration. Press the accelerator pedal beyond the kickdown point. The automatic transaxle will downshift and operate at higher engine speeds.
