The manual transmission has 5 (or 6) forward speeds. The transmission is fully synchronized in all forward gears, so shifting up or down is smooth.

WARNING

Before leaving the vehicle, make sure the gear shift lever is in first gear for a manual transmission, or in R (Reverse) for an automatic transmission. Apply the parking brake, then turn the ignition key to the LOCK/OFF position. Sudden movement of the vehicle may occur if you do not observe these precautions.

To shift into R (Reverse), make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop, then move the gear shift lever to the neutral position before moving it into R.

When the vehicle has come to a complete stop and you have difficulty shifting into 1st or R (Reverse):

1. Move the gear shift lever to the neutral position and release the clutch pedal.

2. Depress the clutch pedal, then shift into 1st gear or R (Reverse).

Intelligent

In cold weather, it may be difficult to shift gears until the transmission fluid warms up.
