Starting with Jumper Cables
Jump starting can be dangerous if not done correctly. Therefore, to avoid injury or damage to your vehicle or battery, you must follow the jump starting procedures with jumper cables. If you have any doubts, we strongly recommend that you call a qualified technician or towing service to start your vehicle with jumper cables.
NOTICE
Use only a 12-volt jumper system. You risk irreparable damage to the starter, ignition system, and other 12-volt electrical parts if you use a 24-volt power source (two 12-volt batteries connected in series) or a 24-volt generator.
WARNING
Battery
Never attempt to check the electrolyte level in the battery, as it may break or explode, resulting in serious injury.
WARNING
Battery
- Keep any flame or source of sparks away from the battery. The battery releases hydrogen gas, which can explode if exposed to flame or sparks. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury and vehicle damage! If you are not sure you can follow this procedure, seek the help of qualified persons. Batteries contain sulfuric acid. It is a strongly oxidizing and toxic chemical compound. When charging the battery with temporary connections, wear protective goggles and take care not to splash acid on yourself, your clothing, or the vehicle.
- Do not attempt to jump-start a discharged, frozen, or low-electrolyte battery with jumper cables, as the battery may rupture or explode.
