Canister The activated charcoal canister is filled with charcoal that absorbs evaporated fuel from the fuel tank. Fuel vapor accumulated in the tank is drawn into the intake manifold by the ECM/PCM when conditions are appropriate. PURGE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE (PCSV) The Purge Control Solenoid Valve (PCSV) is a solenoid valve controlled by the ECM/PCM signal and installed in the passage between the activated charcoal canister and the intake manifold. To draw in the vapor absorbed by the canister into the intake manifold, the ECM/PCM opens the PCSV; otherwise, the passage remains closed. Fuel Tank Filler Cap The clamping system on the threaded fuel tank cap reduces the possibility of incorrect installation when closing the tank. When the fuel tank gasket and the filler pipe flange make contact, the clamping locator produces a clicking sound, indicating that the cap is installed correctly.
