Hyundai Ioniq. High Beam Assist (HBA)

The High Beam Assist (HBA) system automatically controls the headlamp beam range (switching between high beam and low beam) depending on the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.

Operating Condition

1. Set the headlamp switch to the AUTO position.

2. Turn on the high beams by pushing the lever away from you.

High Beam Assist (HBA) (Hyundai Ioniq. High Beam Assist (HBA)) indicator will illuminate.

3. The High Beam Assist (HBA) system will activate when the vehicle speed exceeds 25 mph (40 km/h).

  • If the headlamp switch is pushed forward while the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the HBA system will be canceled and the high beams will remain on continuously.
  • If the headlamp switch is pulled toward you when the high beams are off, the high beams will turn on without canceling the High Beam Assist (HBA) system. When you release the light switch, the lever will return to the center position and the high beams will turn off.
  • If the headlamp switch is pulled toward you while the high beams are on with High Beam Assist (HBA), the low beams will turn on and High Beam Assist (HBA) will be canceled.
  • If the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the High Beam Assist (HBA) system will be canceled and the low beams will remain on.

When the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the high beams switch to low beams if any of the following conditions occur:

- When headlights of an oncoming vehicle are detected.
- When taillights of a preceding vehicle are detected.
- When headlights or taillights of a motorcycle or bicycle are detected.
- When ambient light is bright enough and high beams are not required.
- When street lights or other lights are detected.
- When the headlight switch is not in the AUTO position.
- When the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is turned off.
- When vehicle speed is below 24 km/h.

Warning Light and Message

Hyundai Ioniq. High Beam Assist (HBA)

If the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is not operating properly, the Assist warning message will appear for a few seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light (Hyundai Ioniq. High Beam Assist (HBA)) will illuminate. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system inspected.

WARNING

The driver should be careful in the following situations, as the system may not operate properly when the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is weak or limited in detection:

When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is weak.

  • When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to a damaged lamp, obstruction from view, etc.
  • When the lamps of an oncoming or preceding vehicle are covered with dust, snow, or water.
  • When the vehicle headlights are off but the fog lights, etc. are on.

When external conditions interfere.

  • When a lamp of similar shape to the vehicle headlights is present.
  • When the headlight is not repaired or replaced at an authorized dealer.
  • If the headlight aim is not adjusted properly.
  • When driving on narrow, winding roads, uneven roads, or uphill or downhill slopes.
  • When only a portion of the vehicle ahead is visible at an intersection or on a curve.
  • When there is a traffic light, reflective sign, flashing sign, or a leading mirror.
  • When there is a temporary reflector or flashing light ahead (construction site).
  • When road conditions are poor, such as wet, icy, or snow-covered roads.
  • When a vehicle suddenly appears from around a curve.
  • When the vehicle is tilted due to a flat tire or is being towed.
  • When the LKA (Lane Keeping Assist) system malfunction indicator (yellow) illuminates (if equipped), etc.

When forward visibility is poor.

  • When the lamps of an oncoming or preceding vehicle are covered with dust, snow, or water.
  • When the light from an oncoming or preceding vehicle is not detected due to exhaust gas, smoke, fog, snow, etc.
  • When foreign material is on the windshield.
  • When visibility is poor due to fog, heavy rain, or snow, etc.
  • Do not disassemble the front view camera for window tinting or application of any coatings or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked for calibration necessity.
  • When replacing or reinstalling the windshield or front view camera, take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system inspected.
  • Be careful not to allow water to enter the High Beam Assist control unit, and do not remove or damage related parts of the High Beam Assist system.
  • Do not place light-reflective objects such as mirrors, white paper, etc. on the dashboard. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
  • The High Beam Assist system may occasionally malfunction. The system is intended for your convenience only. The driver is responsible for safe driving and must always check road conditions for their own safety.
  • If the system does not operate normally, change the headlight position manually between high beam and low beam.
