Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

~2min read
Hyundai Ioniq. Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When the engine start/stop button is turned to the ON position.
    - Illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
    - Remains illuminated if the parking brake is applied.
  • When the parking brake is applied.
  • When the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.
    - If the warning light illuminates with the parking brake released, this indicates low brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  • When the regenerative brake system is not operating.

If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low:

1. Carefully drive to the nearest safe place and stop the vehicle.

2. With the engine off, check the brake fluid level immediately and add fluid as necessary (refer to "Brake Fluid" in chapter 7 for more information). After adding brake fluid, check all brake system components for fluid leaks. If a brake fluid leak is detected, or if the warning light remains on, or if the brakes do not function properly, do not drive the vehicle. Have the vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Dual Diagonal Brake System

Your vehicle is equipped with a diagonal dual brake system. This means you still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems fails.

When only one of the dual systems is operating, the pedal travel is longer than normal and more force on the pedal is required to stop the vehicle.

In addition, the vehicle will not stop in as short a distance unless the entire brake system is working.

If the brakes fail while driving, downshift to a lower gear to slow the vehicle, stop the engine, and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

WARNING

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

Driving the vehicle with the warning light on is dangerous. If the parking brake and brake fluid warning light comes on with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low.

In this case, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
