Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Disconnect the air compressor connector (A) and the alternator connector (B), and disconnect the cable (C) from the alternator "B" terminal.
  3. Loosen the alternator by slightly loosening the lower mounting bolt (A) without fully removing it, then remove the drive belt.
  4. Loosen the mounting bolts (A), then turn the adjusting bolt (B) clockwise to release the belt tension.
  5. Remove the drive belt (A).
  6. Remove the alternator brace assembly (B) after loosening the mounting bolt (A).
  7. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt (A), then remove the alternator (B).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  2. After installation, adjust the alternator belt tension. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt") Alternator upper mounting bolt: 26.5–37 N·m Alternator lower mounting bolt: 29.4–41 N·m Alternator brace mounting bolt: 24.3–27 N·m

Disassembly

  1. Remove the alternator. (Refer to Charging System - "Alternator")
  2. Remove the OAD (Overrunning Alternator Decoupler) cap (A).
  3. Remove the OAD pulley (overrunning alternator decoupler) (A) using the special service tool.
  4. Remove the rear cover (A) after removing the nuts.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts (A) and the regulator assembly (B).
  6. Remove the slip ring guide (A) by pulling it.

  8. Remove the 4 through bolts (A).
  9. Separate the rotor (A) and the bracket (B).

Installation

[Rotor]
  1. Check that there is continuity between the slip rings (C).
  2. Make sure there is no continuity between the slip rings and the rotor (B) or the rotor shaft (A).
  3. If the rotor fails the continuity check, replace the generator.
  4. Check for continuity between each pair of wires (A).
  5. Make sure there is no continuity between each terminal and the coil core.
  6. If the coil fails the continuity check, replace the generator.
