Fuel Filler Door

~4min read

Opening the Fuel Filler Door

The fuel filler door must be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling the fuel filler door release.

1. Turn off the engine.

2. To open the fuel filler door, pull up the fuel filler door release.

3. Pull the fuel filler door (1) fully open.

4. To remove the fuel filler cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may hear a hissing sound as the pressure inside the tank equalizes.

5. Place the cap on the fuel filler door.

Information

If the fuel filler door cannot be opened because ice has formed around it, lightly tap or press on the door to break the ice and free the door. Do not pry the door open. If necessary, spray an approved de-icer around the door (do not use engine coolant antifreeze) or move the vehicle to a warm place and allow the ice to melt.

Closing the Fuel Filler Door

1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks.

2. Close the fuel filler door until it clicks into place.

Information

The fuel filler door will not close if the driver's door is locked. If you lock the driver's door while refueling, unlock it before closing the fuel filler door.

WARNING

Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Failure to follow these instructions may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:

  • Read and follow all warnings posted at the filling station.
  • Before refueling, note the location of the emergency fuel shut-off switch, if equipped at the station.
  • Before touching the fuel nozzle, eliminate any potential static electricity buildup by touching a metal part of the vehicle away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of fuel vapor with bare hands.
  • Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from cell phones may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Do not re-enter the vehicle after refueling has started. You may build up static electricity by touching, rubbing, or sliding on any object or fabric capable of generating static electricity.

A static electricity discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. If you must re-enter the vehicle, again eliminate potentially dangerous static electricity by touching a metal part of the vehicle away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of fuel with bare hands.

  • When refueling, always shift the transmission to P (Park) (for dual clutch transmission) or 1st gear or R (Reverse, for manual transmission), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition key to the LOCK/OFF position. Sparks generated by electrical components of the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. A static electricity discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling has started, maintain bare-hand contact with the vehicle until refueling is complete.
  • Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed for transporting and storing gasoline.
  • Do not use matches or a lighter, do not smoke, and do not leave a lit cigarette in your vehicle at a filling station, especially while refueling.
  • Do not overfill or top off the fuel tank, as this may cause a spill.
  • If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle immediately, contact the station attendant at once, and then contact the local fire department. Follow all safety instructions they provide.
  • If fuel under pressure sprays out, it may cover your clothing or skin, creating a risk of fire and burns. Always remove the fuel filler cap carefully and slowly. If fuel is spraying out or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the sound stops before fully removing the cap.
  • Always check that the fuel filler cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.

Information

Always refuel your vehicle in accordance with the Fuel Requirements described in the Introduction chapter.

NOTICE

  • Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
  • If the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced, use only a genuine HYUNDAI cap or an equivalent specified for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause a serious malfunction of the fuel system or emission control system.
