Description and Operation
Description
The AC generator has eight built-in diodes, each of which converts alternating current to direct current. Therefore, direct current appears at the "B" terminal of the alternator. In addition, the charging voltage of this alternator is regulated by the battery voltage sensing system. The alternator is regulated by the battery voltage sensing system. The main components of the alternator are the rotor, stator, rectifier, capacitor, brushes, bearings and poly-V belt pulley. The brush holder contains a built-in electronic voltage regulator.

Repair Procedures
Removal
- Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Loosen the alternator nut, then disconnect the cable (A) from the "B" terminal of the alternator.
- Disconnect the alternator connector (B).

- Remove the upper alternator bolt (A). Upper alternator bolt: 49.0–64 N·m

- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the engine room cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")
- Remove the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
- Disconnect the compressor ECV connector, then loosen the mounting bolts and widen the gap between the compressor (A) and the engine to remove the alternator.

- Remove the lower alternator bolt (A). Lower alternator bolt: 49.0–64 N·m

- Remove the alternator (A).

Installation
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Install the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
