Removal

   Remove the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")

   Remove the suspension member. (Refer to Suspension System - "Suspension Member")

   Remove the front drive shaft assembly. [Right side] (Refer to Drive Shaft and Axle - "Front Drive Shaft")

   Remove the front muffler. [Gasoline 3.5/3.8] (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Muffler")

   Remove the front propeller shaft assembly (A) from the transfer case assembly.

   Tightening Torque: 49.0–69 N·m

   [Diesel 2.2]

   

   [Gasoline 3.5, 3.8]

   Remove the transfer case assembly.

   Tightening torque: 60.8 – 66 N·m

   1) Loosen the upper mounting bolts of the transfer case assembly (A). [Diesel 2.2]

   2-1) Loosen the lower mounting bolts of the transfer assembly (B). [Transaxle -> Transfer] [Diesel 2.2]

   

   [Gasoline 3.5, 3.8]

   

   2-2) Loosen the lower mounting bolts of the transfer assembly (B). [Transfer -> Transaxle] [Diesel 2.2]

   

   [Gasoline 3.5, 3.8]

   

   3) Remove the transfer assembly (C). [Diesel 2.2]

   

   [Gasoline 3.5, 3.8]

   

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

   Be careful not to damage the O-ring (A). If the O-ring is damaged, replace it with a new one. Apply high-molybdenum grease to the splines (B) and coat them. GREASE equivalent to SPL-1 (MS511-07) [Diesel 2.2] [Gasoline 3.5, 3.8] Install the propeller shaft so that it is aligned with the runout mark. (Transfer case 1 pc (A) and propeller shaft 1 pc (B) aligned with each other.)
