Hyundai Palisade. Fuel Filler Door

4. Pull the fuel filler door (1) outward to access the fuel filler cap.

5. To remove the fuel filler cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may hear a hissing sound as the pressure inside the fuel tank equalizes.

6. Install the cap on the fuel filler door.

Information

If the fuel filler door cannot be opened because ice has formed around it, lightly tap or press on the door to break the ice and release the door. Do not pry on the door. If necessary, spray around the door with an approved de-icer (do not use engine coolant antifreeze), or park the vehicle in a warm place and allow the ice to melt.

Closing the Fuel Filler Door

1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks once. 2. Close the fuel filler door until it is securely locked.

Information

The fuel filler door will not close if the driver's door is locked. If you lock the driver's door while refueling, unlock it before closing the fuel filler door.

Information

  • Tighten the cap until it clicks once. Otherwise, the fuel filler cap warning light will illuminate.
  • A intermittent noise may be heard near the fuel filler neck while the engine is idling if the fuel filler cap is not securely closed. This is normally related to the OBD system.
  • When refueling on an incline, the fuel gauge may not indicate the F position. This is not a malfunction. If you move the vehicle to level ground, the fuel gauge will move to the full position.

WARNING

Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Failure to follow these instructions may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:

  • Read and follow all warnings posted at the gas station.
  • Before refueling, note the location of the emergency fuel shut-off switch, if equipped, at the gas station.
  • Before touching the fuel nozzle, discharge any static electricity by touching a metal part of the vehicle away from the filler neck, nozzle, or other fuel source, with your bare hand.
  • Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from mobile phones may possibly ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Do not get back into the vehicle once you have started refueling. You may build up static electricity by touching, rubbing, or sliding against any object or fabric capable of generating static electricity. A static electricity discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. If you must get back into the vehicle, you should discharge potentially dangerous static electricity again by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other gasoline source, with your bare hand.
  • When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. Static discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling has started, maintain contact between your bare hand and the vehicle until refueling is complete.
  • Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed to carry and store gasoline.
  • When refueling, always move the shift lever to the P (Park) position, apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position. Sparks produced by electrical components connected to the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Do not use matches or a lighter, and do not smoke or leave a lit cigarette in the vehicle at the gas station, especially while refueling.
  • Do not overfill or top off your vehicle's fuel tank, as this may cause gasoline to spill.
  • If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle and immediately contact the station attendant, then contact the local fire department. Follow any safety instructions they provide.
  • If fuel under pressure sprays out, it may cover your clothing or skin and expose you to the risk of fire and burns. Always remove the fuel cap carefully and slowly. If the cap releases fuel or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the condition stops before removing the cap completely.
  • Always make sure the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.

Information

Be sure to fuel your vehicle according to the "Fuel Requirements" provided in the "Introduction" chapter.

NOTICE

  • Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
  • If the fuel filler cap requires replacement, use only a genuine HYUNDAI cap or an equivalent specified for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause a serious malfunction of the fuel system or emission control system.
