Hood Opening

1. Park the vehicle and set the parking brake.

2. Pull the hood release lever to unlatch the hood. The hood should pop up slightly.

3. Go to the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, lift the secondary latch (1) inside the hood center and lift the hood (2). Once the hood has been raised about halfway, it will lift fully by itself.

Hood Closing

1. Before closing the hood, check around the engine compartment and make sure of the following:

- Remove any tools or other loose items from the engine compartment area or the hood opening area
- Remove all gloves, rags or other flammable materials from the engine compartment
- All filler caps are tightly and correctly installed

2. Lower the hood to about halfway (about 12 inches (30 cm) above the closed position) and press down to latch it securely. Then check twice to make sure the hood is secure. If the hood can be lifted slightly, it is not securely latched. Open it again and close it with more force.

WARNING

• Before closing the hood, make sure all obstacles are removed from the hood opening area.
• Always check twice to make sure the hood is securely latched before driving. Check that the hood open warning lamp or message is not displayed on the instrument cluster. Driving with the hood open may result in a complete loss of visibility, which may cause an accident.
• Do not drive the vehicle with the hood in the raised position, as visibility is obstructed, which may lead to an accident, and the hood may fall or be damaged.
