Driving Your Vehicle

Good Driving Practices

~1min read
  • Never allow your vehicle to coast in neutral or with the clutch depressed. This practice is extremely dangerous.
  • Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal. This may cause the brakes and related components to overheat and fail. When driving down a steep grade, reduce speed and downshift. Engine braking helps reduce vehicle speed.
  • Brake before downshifting. This prevents excessive engine speed, which may damage the engine.
  • Reduce speed when crosswinds are strong. This allows you to better control your vehicle.
  • Wait until the vehicle is completely stopped before shifting into reverse to avoid damaging the transmission.
  • Drive carefully on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting. On slippery surfaces, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause a crash due to loss of traction at the driving wheels and loss of vehicle control.

WARNING

Do not use engine braking (downshifting) abruptly on slippery road surfaces.

The vehicle may skid and cause an accident.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:

  • ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a crash, an unbelted passenger faces a greater risk of serious injury or death than a properly belted passenger.
  • Avoid driving too fast when turning or cornering.
  • Avoid abrupt steering inputs, such as sudden lane changes or rapid sharp turns.
  • The risk of rollover increases sharply if you lose control of your vehicle at high speed.
  • Loss of control often occurs when two wheels leave the road and the driver steers too sharply to correct the vehicle.
  • If your vehicle leaves the road, do not steer sharply. Instead, brake gently before returning the vehicle to the road.
  • HYUNDAI recommends that you obey speed limits.
