The manual transmission has 6 forward speeds. It is fully synchronized in all forward gears to make shifting to higher or lower speeds easier.

WARNING

Before leaving the driver's seat, make sure that 1st gear is engaged when the vehicle is parked on a slope, or reverse gear if it is parked facing downhill. Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position. Failure to follow this warning may result in unexpected vehicle movement.

To engage reverse gear, make sure the vehicle is completely stopped, then move the shift lever to N (Neutral) before shifting to R (Reverse).

When you are stopped and have difficulty shifting into 1st gear or reverse:

1. Move the gear shift lever to the neutral position and release the clutch pedal.

2. Depress the clutch pedal, then shift into 1st gear or reverse.

Information

In cold weather, shifting may be difficult because the transmission fluid is cold.
