Closing the Fuel Filler Door

~3min read

1. To install the cap, turn it clockwise until you hear a click.

2. Close the fuel filler door firmly.

WARNING

Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Failure to follow the instructions below may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:

  • Read and follow all warnings posted at the fuel station.
  • Before refueling, locate the emergency stop button at the fuel dispensing station.
  • Before touching the fuel injector, you must discharge any static electricity by touching bare metal on the vehicle at a distance from the fuel filler neck, injector, or any other fuel source.
  • Do not use a mobile phone while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from phones may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Do not return to the vehicle after you have started refueling. You may build up static electricity by touching or rubbing objects or fabrics. Static discharges may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
If it is absolutely necessary to return to the vehicle, you must again discharge any static electricity by touching a metal part of the vehicle away from the fuel filler neck, injector, or any other fuel source.
  • When refueling, shift the transmission to P (Park, automatic transmission) or to first or reverse gear (manual transmission). Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position. Sparks from electrical components connected to the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • When using an approved portable fuel container, be sure to place it on the ground before starting to fill. Static discharges from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once you have started refueling, keep your bare hand in contact with the vehicle until the operation is complete.
  • Use only approved plastic containers for storing and transporting gasoline.
  • Do not use matches or lighters, do not smoke, and do not leave lit cigarettes in your vehicle when at a fuel station, especially while refueling.
  • Avoid overfilling the tank, as you risk spilling fuel.
  • If a fire starts during refueling, move away from the vehicle and immediately notify the station attendant before calling the fire department. Follow all safety instructions they give you.
  • If pressurized fuel escapes from the tank, it may contact clothing or skin and cause a fire or burns. Always remove the fuel filler cap carefully and slowly. If fuel leaks from under the cap or you hear a hissing sound, wait until it stops before fully removing the cap.
  • Make sure the fuel filler cap is installed correctly to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.

Information

Be sure to refuel your vehicle in accordance with the instructions in the Introduction chapter.

NOTICE

  • Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. You may damage the paint.
  • If you need to replace the fuel filler cap, use only a genuine HYUNDAI cap or an approved equivalent for your vehicle. Using an incorrect fuel filler cap may cause serious damage to the fuel system or emission control system.
