Electronic Power Steering (EPS)
The system assists you in steering the vehicle. If the vehicle is turned off or if the power steering system malfunctions, you can still steer the vehicle, but it will require greater steering effort.
If you notice any change in the steering effort required during normal driving, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
If the electronic power steering does not operate normally, the
warning light and the message "Check Electronic Power Steering" will illuminate on the instrument cluster. You can drive the vehicle, but more steering effort will be required. Have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or service station as soon as possible.
Information
The following symptoms may occur during normal vehicle operation:
- Steering effort may be high immediately after the engine start/stop button is pressed to the ON position. This occurs while the system performs the EPS system diagnosis. After the diagnosis is complete, the steering effort will return to normal.
- When the battery voltage is low, you may need to apply more steering effort. However, this is a temporary condition, and it will return to normal after the battery is charged.
- A clicking sound may be heard from the EPS relay after the engine start/stop button is turned to the ON or OFF position.
- Engine noise may be heard when the vehicle is stopped or moving at low vehicle speed.
- A noise may be heard when operating the steering wheel at low temperatures. If the temperature rises, the noise will disappear. This is a normal condition.
- If the EPS system detects a malfunction, the steering assist function will not be activated to prevent a fatal accident. Warning lights may illuminate on the instrument cluster or steering effort may be high. If these symptoms occur, drive the vehicle to a safe area as soon as it is safe to do so. Have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
