Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control Limitations

~4min read

Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control may not operate properly if:

  • The navigation system is not operating properly.
  • Map information is not being received due to a problem with the infotainment system.
  • The speed limit and road information in the navigation system has not been updated.
  • The map information differs from actual road conditions due to a real-time GPS or map data error.
  • The navigation system is searching for a route while driving.
  • GPS signals are blocked in an area such as a tunnel.
  • The road divides into two or more roads and then rejoins.
  • You leave the route set in the navigation system.
  • The route to the destination is changed or cancelled by resetting the navigation system.
  • Your vehicle arrives at a service station or rest area.
  • Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in operation.
  • The navigation system cannot detect the current position of the vehicle (for example, on an elevated road, including an overpass next to public roads, or when roads run parallel nearby).
  • The navigation system was updated while driving or restarting.
  • Speed limits in some sections have changed depending on road conditions (for example, a construction zone).
  • You are driving on a road where construction is in progress.
  • You are driving in a lane with restricted driving conditions.
  • Severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain or heavy snow, are present.
  • You are driving on a road with sharp curves.

1: Set route, 2: Driving route, 3: Main road, 4: Winding road section

  • When your vehicle continues on a controlled access road and does not follow the navigation route to exit the highway, Highway Auto Curve Deceleration may not operate until it determines that you are driving on the highway. When Highway Auto Curve Deceleration operates, your vehicle may decelerate gradually or quickly depending on the distance to the curve and the vehicle speed.

1: Set route, 2: Branch line, 3: Driving route, 4: Main road, 5: Winding road section

  • When your vehicle does not follow the navigation route and exits the highway at an interchange or junction, Highway Curve Deceleration may operate temporarily until it determines that you have exited the highway.

1: Driving route, 2: Railway branch, 3: Curved road section, 4: Main road

  • If no destination is set in the navigation system, Highway Auto Curve Deceleration operates based on curve information for the controlled access road in the navigation system. When you exit the highway at an interchange or junction, Highway Auto Curve Deceleration may temporarily operate using navigation information for the highway.

WARNING

Always watch the road. You are responsible for not violating traffic regulations. Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control does not replace safe driving practices and is an additional function only.

To avoid serious injury or death:

  • Always check the speed limit while driving. The speed limit information in the navigation may differ from the actual speed limit on the road.
  • Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control is automatically cancelled when you leave the highway and enter a general road, interchange, junction, or rest area.
  • Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control may not operate depending on the vehicle detected ahead on the road.
  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle, turn off Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control.
  • After passing through a highway toll gate, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control operates based on the outermost lane. If you enter one of the other lanes, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control may not operate properly.
  • Your vehicle accelerates if you press the accelerator pedal while Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control is operating. If the accelerator pedal is not pressed deeply enough, your vehicle may decelerate.
  • If you accelerate and release the accelerator pedal during Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control operation, your vehicle may not decelerate sufficiently or may decelerate rapidly.
  • If the curve is too sharp or if the curvature is small, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control may not operate.

Information

  • There may be a time lag between navigation guidance and when Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control operation starts and ends.
  • The speed information on the instrument cluster may differ from the navigation system.
  • Even if you are driving at a speed lower than the Smart Cruise Control set speed, acceleration may be restricted for curves ahead on the road.
  • If Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control is operating when exiting a highway and entering an interchange, junction, or rest area, the function may continue to operate for some time.
  • Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control deceleration may not feel sufficient due to road conditions, such as uneven road surfaces or narrow roads.
