Parking Distance Warning Malfunction and Limitations

~2min read

After starting the engine, a beep sounds when the transmission is shifted to R (Reverse) to indicate that the Parking Distance Warning is operating normally.

If one or more of the following occurs, check whether the ultrasonic sensor is damaged or blocked.

  • The warning sound does not sound.
  • The buzzer sounds intermittently.
  • The warning message "Parking Distance Sensor Error or Blocked" may appear on the instrument cluster.

If the system still does not operate properly, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Parking Distance Warning Limitations

The Parking Distance Warning may not operate normally when:

  • Any sensor is covered or blocked by snow, water, or dirt. The Parking Distance Warning operates normally again when the sensor is cleared or uncovered.
  • The weather is very hot or cold.
  • The sensor or sensor assembly is disassembled.
  • The sensor surface is damaged or scratched by a sharp object.
  • The sensors or their surroundings are sprayed directly with a high-pressure washer.

The Parking Distance Warning may malfunction when:

  • Heavy rain or water spray is present.
  • Water flows over the sensor surface.
  • The sensor is covered with snow.
  • An ultrasonic sensor with a similar frequency is near your vehicle.
  • Sources generating ultrasonic waves are near your vehicle.
  • Driving on uneven roads, gravel roads, or grass.
  • The bumper height of your vehicle is modified or the ultrasonic sensor is installed differently.
  • Equipment, license plate, or accessories are attached near the ultrasonic sensors.

The following objects may not be detected:

  • Narrow or thin objects, such as ropes, chains, or small poles.
  • Objects that tend to absorb the sensor frequency, such as clothing, sponge material, or snow.
  • Objects less than 40 inches (100 cm) high and less than 6 inches (14 cm) wide.
  • Pedestrians, animals, or objects that are very close to the ultrasonic sensors.

WARNING

  • Parking Distance Warning operation may be affected by several factors (including environmental conditions). The Parking Distance Warning is only a supplementary function.
  • Always turn your head and look for potential hazards around your vehicle when parking.
  • To prevent serious injury or death, be careful when driving near objects, pedestrians, and especially children. Some objects may not be detected by the ultrasonic sensors due to distance, size, or material.
