Occupant Classification Module (OCM) and Sensor
The Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is located under the front passenger seat. The sensor is located under the foam seat cushion. Any weight on the seat will be detected by the sensor. The OCM uses input from the sensor to determine the most likely front passenger classification. The OCM sends this information to the ORC. The ORC uses the classification to determine whether to activate or deactivate the Passenger Advanced Front Air Bag. For the OCS to operate as designed, it is important for the front passenger to sit properly and wear the seat belt correctly. Properly seated passengers:
- Sit upright
- Face forward
- Sit in the center of the seat with feet comfortably on or near the floor
- Sit with their back against the seatback and the seatback in the upright position

Sit properly
The OCS may deactivate deployment of the Advanced Front Passenger Air Bag if the OCS determines that:
- The front passenger seat is unoccupied or has very light objects on it.
- A rear-facing child restraint is installed in the front passenger seat.
- A child is in the front passenger seat, including a child seated in a forward-facing child restraint or booster seat.
- A small passenger is in the front passenger seat, including a child or a small adult.
- The front passenger is seated improperly, or their weight is removed from the seat for a period of time.

* When the front passenger seat is empty, or when very light objects are placed on the seat and the seat belt is unbuckled, the front passenger Advanced Air Bag will not deploy even though the PAD indicator light is NOT illuminated.
** A child may be classified as an adult, which allows the front passenger Advanced Air Bag to deploy. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat, and never install a rear-facing child restraint, including a rear-facing child restraint, on the front passenger seat.
