Selec-Speed Control (SSC) System — If Equipped
SSC is intended for off-road driving in 4WD Low only. SSC maintains vehicle speed by actively controlling engine torque and brakes.
SSC has three states:
- Off (the feature is not switched on and will not activate)
- On (the feature is switched on and ready, but activation conditions are not met, or the driver is actively overriding with the brake or accelerator)
- Active (the feature is switched on and actively controlling vehicle speed)
Switching SSC On
SSC is switched on by pressing the SSC switch, but the following conditions must also be met to turn SSC on:
- The transmission is in 4WD Low mode.
- Vehicle speed is below 8 km/h.
- The parking brake is released.
- The driver's door is closed.
- The driver is not pressing the accelerator pedal.
SSC Activation
Once SSC is on, it activates automatically when the following conditions are met:
- The driver releases the accelerator pedal.
- The driver releases the brake.
- The transmission is in any position other than PARK.
- Vehicle speed is below 20 mph (32 km/h).
The SSC set speed is selected by the driver and can be adjusted using the gear shift +/- buttons. In addition, the SSC set speed may be reduced when climbing a grade, and the amount of the set speed reduction depends on the grade severity. A summary of SSC set speeds is shown below:
SSC Target Set Speeds
- 1st = 0.6 mph (1 km/h)
- 2nd = 1.2 mph (2 km/h)
- 3rd = 1.8 mph (3 km/h)
- 4th = 2.5 mph (4 km/h)
- 5th = 3.1 mph (5 km/h)
- 6th = 3.7 mph (6 km/h)
- 7th = 4.3 mph (7 km/h)
- 8th = 8 km/h
- 9th = 9 km/h — If Equipped
- REVERSE = 0.6 mph (1 km/h)
- NEUTRAL = 1.2 mph (2 km/h)
- PARK = SSC remains on but not active
NOTE:
- During SSC, the gear selector +/- input is used to select the SSC target speed, but does not affect the gear selected by the transmission. When SSC is actively controlling speed, the transmission will shift accordingly for the driver-selected set speed and the prevailing driving conditions.
- SSC operation is affected by the Off Road+ drive mode, if active. Differences may be noticeable to the driver as different levels of aggressiveness.
Driver override
The driver can override SSC activation with the accelerator or brake at any time.
SSC Deactivation
SSC will be deactivated, but will remain available, if any of the following conditions occur:
- The driver overrides the SSC set speed by applying the accelerator or brake.
- Vehicle speed exceeds 20 mph (32 km/h) but remains below 40 mph (64 km/h).
- The vehicle is shifted into PARK.
SSC Switch Off
SSC is deactivated and switched off if any of the following conditions occur:
- The driver presses the SSC switch.
- The transmission is shifted out of 4WD Low.
- Parking brake is applied.
- The driver's door is opened.
- The vehicle travels faster than 20 mph (32 km/h) for more than 70 seconds.
- The vehicle travels at a speed above 40 mph (64 km/h). SSC will switch off immediately.
Driver Feedback
The instrument cluster has an SSC icon, and the SSC switch is equipped with a lamp that provides feedback to the driver on the SSC status.
- The cluster icon and switch indicator will illuminate and remain steady when SSC is on or active. These are normal operating conditions for SSC.
- The cluster icon and switch indicator will flash for several seconds, then go out, when the driver presses the SSC switch but the on conditions are not met.
- The cluster icon and switch indicator will flash for several seconds, then go out, when SSC switches off due to excessive speed.
- The cluster icon and switch indicator will flash, then go out, when SSC is deactivated due to overheated brakes.
