Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. To loosen the tension, turn the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise, then remove the drive belt (A).
    When installing the drive belt, follow this sequence: crankshaft pulley → A/C compressor pulley → idler pulley → generator pulley → water pump pulley → drive belt auto tensioner roller. Turn the automatic tensioner arm by turning the arm boss (B) counterclockwise with a wrench.
    After installing the drive belt on the automatic tensioner pulley, slowly release the automatic tensioner arm.
  3. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

Inspection

Visually inspect the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc. If any defect is found, replace the drive belt.
Cracks on the belt ribs are acceptable. If pieces of rib are missing from the belt, it must be replaced.
