Removal

  1. Remove the engine compartment cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "Engine Compartment Under Cover")
  2. Drain the engine coolant. (Refer to Cooling System — Engine Coolant)
  3. Remove the drive belt. (Refer to Valve Timing System - "Drive Belt")
  4. Remove the water pump pulley (A).
  5. Remove the water pump (A) and gaskets (B).

Inspection

  1. Inspect each component for cracks, damage, or wear, and replace the water pump assembly if necessary.
  2. Inspect the bearing for damage, abnormal noise, and rough rotation, and replace the water pump assembly if necessary.
  3. Check for coolant leakage. If coolant leaks from the hole, the seal is damaged. Replace the water pump assembly.
A small amount of "weeping" from the weep hole is normal.

    • Clean the mating surface before assembly.
    • Always use new gaskets.
    • Always use a new stud bolt (bolt C).
    Tightening torque A(3EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m B(1EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m C(1EA): 21.6 ~ 26 N·m — new bolt D(1EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m E(1EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m F(1EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m G(4EA): 21.6 ~ 24 N·m
  2. Install the water pump pulley (A).

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m

  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  4. Fill the radiator with engine coolant and check for leaks. (Refer to Cooling System - "Engine Coolant")
