WARNING - Loose Objects
Loose objects in the driver's footwell may interfere with the operation of the pedals and cause an accident. Do not place anything under the front seats.
WARNING - Front Passenger Responsibility
Riding in a vehicle with the front seatback reclined may result in serious or fatal injury in an accident. If the front seat is reclined during a crash, the passenger's hips may slide under the lap belt with great force onto the unprotected abdomen. This may cause serious or fatal internal injuries. The driver should advise the front passenger to keep the seatback upright whenever the vehicle is in motion.
WARNING
Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and the occupant. The occupant's hips may slide under the lap belt during a crash or sudden stop. This may cause serious or fatal internal injuries, because the seat belt cannot function properly.
CAUTION - Driver's Seat
- Never attempt to adjust the seat while the vehicle is moving. This could cause loss of vehicle control and result in an accident causing death, serious injury, or property damage.
- Do not allow anything to interfere with the normal position of the seatback. Storing items on the seatback or in any other way that prevents the seatback from locking properly may result in serious or fatal injury during a sudden stop or collision.
- Always drive with the seatback upright and the lap portion of the seat belt snug and low on the hips. This is the best position to protect you in a crash.
- To avoid unnecessary and possibly serious injury from airbags, always sit as far from the steering wheel as is practical while still maintaining control of the vehicle. It is recommended that your chest be at least 250 mm (10 in.) from the steering wheel.
WARNING - Rear Seatbacks
- The rear seatback must be securely latched. If not, passengers and objects may be thrown forward, which may result in serious injury or death in a sudden stop or collision.
- Luggage and other cargo should be stowed evenly in the cargo area. If items are large, heavy, or must be stacked, they must be secured. Under no circumstances should cargo be stacked higher than the seatbacks. Failure to observe these warnings may result in serious injury or death in a sudden stop, collision, or rollover.
- No passenger should be in the cargo area, sit, or lie on folded seatbacks while the vehicle is moving. All passengers must sit properly in their seats and be properly restrained while riding.
- When returning the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is securely locked by pushing it forward and backward.
WARNING
After adjusting the seat, always check that it is securely locked by trying to move the seat forward and backward without using the adjusting lever. A sudden or unexpected movement of the driver's seat may result in loss of vehicle control and cause an accident.
WARNING
- Be extremely careful not to pinch your hands or other objects in the seat mechanisms while adjusting the seat.
- Do not place a cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. When operating the seat, gas may escape from the lighter and cause a fire.
- If there are passengers in the rear seats, be careful when adjusting the front seat position.
- Use extreme caution when collecting small objects that have become lodged under the seats or between the seat and center console. Your hands may be cut or injured by sharp edges of the seat mechanism.
