With the smart key, you can lock or unlock the doors and tailgate, and even start the engine without inserting the key.

The smart key buttons function in the same way as the remote control buttons. Refer to "Keyless Remote Entry" in this chapter.

With the smart key in your possession, you can lock and unlock the vehicle doors and the tailgate.

In addition, you can start the engine. For more information, refer to the following section.

Locking

1. Carry the Smart Key.

2. Close all doors.

3. Press the button on the outside door handle.

4. The hazard warning lights will flash once (the hood and tailgate must be closed). In addition, the outside rearview mirrors will fold automatically if the outside rearview mirror folding switch is in the AUTO position (if equipped).

5. Make sure the doors are locked by pulling the outside door handle.

✽ NOTICE

• The button will only work when the smart key is within 0.7 m (28 in.) of the outside door handle.
• Even if you press the outside door handle button, the doors will not lock and the horn will sound for 3 seconds if any of the following occurs:
  - The smart key is inside the vehicle.
  - The engine START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
  - Any door other than the tailgate is open.

Unlocking

1. Carry the Smart Key.

2. Press the button on the outside front door handle.

3. All doors will unlock and the hazard warning lights will flash twice. In addition, the outside rearview mirrors will unfold automatically if the outside rearview mirror folding switch is in the AUTO position (if equipped).

✽ NOTICE

• The button will only work when the smart key is within 0.7 m (28 in.) of the outside door handle.
• When the smart key is detected within 0.7 m (28 in.) of the outside front door handle, other people may also be able to open the doors.
• After all doors are unlocked, the doors will lock again and the outside rearview mirrors will fold if the outside rearview mirror folding switch is in the AUTO position (if equipped) and no door is opened within 30 seconds.
