Description and Operation

Description

The mode control actuator is located on the heater unit.

It controls the position of the mode door by operating the mode control actuator according to the signal from the air conditioning control unit. Pressing the mode select switch changes the mode control actuator in the following order: Vent → Bi-Level → Floor → Mix.

Specifications

Specifications

Door Position Voltage (V) Fault Detection
Max. Cool 0,3 ± 0,15 Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
Max. Heat 4,7 ± 0,15 High voltage: 4.9 V or more

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the mode control actuator connector.

  3. Check that the mode control actuator operates in the defrost mode when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and terminal 4 is grounded.

Check that the mode control actuator operates in the vent mode when the connections are reversed.

  4. Connect the mode control actuator connector.

  5. Turn the ignition on.

  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5.

  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, check operation by replacing the existing mode control actuator with a new genuine part. Then determine whether the temperature control actuator needs to be replaced.

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the temperature control actuator.

(Refer to Heater - "Temperature Control Actuator")

  3. Disconnect the connector (A) and remove the mode control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.

  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
