BSM (Balance Shaft Module) Chain System

  1. The crankshaft key must be aligned with the mating surface of the main bearing cap. As a result, the No. 1 cylinder piston is positioned at top dead center of the compression stroke.
  2. Insert the stopper pin (A) into the BSM to hold the sprocket in the reference position so that the alignment mark (B) is aligned with the timing recess (C).
  3. Install the BSM (Balance Shaft Module).
    1. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque of 29 N·m, then loosen the bolts.
    2. Using the SST (torque angle adapter, 09221-4A000), tighten the bolts to the specified torque and angle. Tightening torque: Bolts (A) (M9x181.5): 22.6 - 26 N·m + 88° - 92° Bolts (B) (M9x100): 22.6 - 26 N·m + 43° - 47°
  4. Install the balance shaft chain (E).
  5. Install the balance shaft chain guide (D).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  6. Install the balance shaft chain tensioner lever (C).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  7. Install the balance shaft chain tensioner (B), then remove the stopper pin (A).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  8. Remove the stopper pin (A) from the balance shaft module.
  9. After rotating the crankshaft 2 revolutions in the normal direction (clockwise when viewed from the front), make sure the alignment mark and recess are aligned at the reference position.
  10. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.

BSM (Balance Shaft Module)

  1. Insert the stopper pin (A) into the BSM to hold the sprocket in the reference position so that the alignment mark (B) is aligned with the timing recess (C).
  2. Install the BSM (balance shaft module) (A).
  3. Install the BSM mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the stopper pin (A) from the BSM.
  5. Remove the stopper pin (A) from the tensioner.
  6. Check the BSM timing mark.
    1. Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the "T" timing mark on the timing chain cover.
    2. Make sure the sprocket alignment mark (A) is visually aligned with the center of the adjacent casting timing mark (B).
  7. Install the oil pan.
    1. Using a gasket scraper, remove all old sealant material from the gasket surfaces.
    2. Before assembling the oil pan, apply liquid sealant Loctite 5900H. Threebond 1217H or equivalent may be used on the oil pan. Assemble the part within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

Bead width: 2.5 mm (0.10 in)

    3. Install the oil pan (A). Tighten the bolts evenly in several passes. Tightening torque: Bolts B (M9): 26.5 - 30 N·m Bolts C (M6): 9.8 - 11.8 N·m
  8. Install the air conditioning compressor bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 19.6 - 24 N·m

  9. Remove the lower air conditioning compressor mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 19.6 - 24 N·m

  10. Fill the engine oil.
  11. Install the right front wheel.
  12. Install the lower cover.
