For Better Battery Care

- Keep the battery securely mounted.
- Keep the top of the battery clean and dry.
- Terminals and connections must be clean, tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or terminal grease.
- If battery electrolyte is spilled, immediately flush the area with a solution of water and baking soda.
- If the vehicle will not be used for an extended period, disconnect the battery cables.
WARNING: Battery Hazards

Always read the following instructions carefully when handling the battery.

Keep lighted cigarettes and any other flames or sparks away from the battery.

Hydrogen, a flammable gas, is always present in battery cells and may explode if ignited.

Keep batteries out of the reach of children, as batteries contain highly corrosive SULFURIC ACID. Do not allow battery acid to contact skin, eyes, clothing, or painted surfaces.

If electrolyte gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. If electrolyte contacts your skin, wash the affected area thoroughly. If you feel pain or burning, seek medical attention immediately.
Wear safety glasses when charging the battery or working near it. Always provide ventilation when working in an enclosed area.

An improperly disposed of battery can harm the environment and human health. Dispose of the battery in accordance with local laws or regulations.
- When lifting a battery with a plastic case, excessive pressure on the case may cause electrolyte to leak from the battery, which may result in injury. Lift the battery with a carrying strap or by hand on opposite corners.
- Never attempt to charge the battery while the battery cables are connected.
- The electrical ignition system operates at high voltage. Never touch these components while the engine is running or the ignition is on. Failure to observe the above warnings may result in serious personal injury or death.
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING
Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds, chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm. Batteries also contain other chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer. Wash hands after handling.
CAUTION
If you connect unauthorized electronic devices to the battery, the battery may be discharged. Never use unauthorized devices.
Battery Charging
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free calcium-based battery.
- If the battery is discharged quickly (for example, because the headlights or interior lights were left on while the vehicle was not in use), charge it with a slow charge (trickle) for 10 hours.
- If the battery is gradually discharged due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.
WARNING! Battery Charging
Observe the following precautions when charging the battery:
- The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep cigarettes, sparks and flames away from the battery.
- Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to gas violently (boil) or if the electrolyte temperature of any cell exceeds 120°F (49°C).
- Wear safety glasses when checking the battery during charging.
- Disconnect the battery charger in the following order.
- Turn off the battery charger main switch. Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.
WARNING
- Before performing maintenance or recharging the battery, turn off all accessories and stop the engine.
- When disconnecting the battery, the negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last.
Reset Items
The cells must be reset after the battery has been discharged or disconnected.
